Mike Jewell Rolls to NASRA 13th Annual Kentuckiana Klash Win at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY-July 2, 2011- Bluegrass Speedway would present the 13th Annual Kentuckiana Klash for the National All Star Racing Association on Saturday and Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, OH would become the first repeat winner in the Super Late Model division at Bluegrass Speedway for 2011 by taking the win in the $3,000 to win event. Other feature event winners for the evening included Mark Filiatreau of Cox’s Creek, KY in UMP Street Stocks and Derek Groomer of Bloomington, IN in Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modifieds.

Victor Lee would take the lead at the drop of the green flag on the 30 lap NASRA Kentuckiana Klash event, with fourth place starting Mike Jewell running second by lap 3, followed by Tim Rivers, Terry English, and Steve Barnett. Lee Devasier would slide past Barnett one circuit later, only to draw the first caution of the race when he would suffer a flat right rear tire. The restart would see Jewell fire a slider on Lee exiting turn two to grab the race lead, while Rivers, English, and Barnett remained third through fifth. The top five remained the same as the leaders were about to catch traffic when Dennis Roberson would slow to a stop in turn one. The restart would see Jewell pull away a bit from Lee, only to have Lee run Jewell back down in traffic with five laps remaining, but Jewell would hold off the challenges of Lee to pick up the win in his Southern Indiana Rock Drilling/MPC Motorsports/Rick Julian Towing/S&L Electric/Morgan Foods/Jewell TV/ Scott County Tire sponsored #9 MasterSbilt Race Car, powered by a Cornett Race Engine. Lee would claim second, while English would slip past Rivers in the late stages of the race for third, while Barnett completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be 12th starting Rohn Moon, Timmy Yeager, Mike Cawood, 17th starting David Webb, and Johnny Wheeler. In preliminary action, Terry English would be the top qualifier among 31 entries at 16.160 seconds, while heat race wins fell to English, Lee, Rivers, and Jewell. Webb and Arnie Fields would score the B-Main wins, while series provisional starting spots went to Tim Tungate and Christian Rayburn, while Joey Jones would be the track provisional.

The UMP Street Stock feature event would see Mark Filiatreau jump out to a big lead in the early stages of the 12 lap event, but previous winner Scott Beeler would run Filiatreau down and challenge for the race lead as the pair saw the white flag. Filiatreau would use a lapped car as a pick and earn some breathing room from Beeler to pick up his first win of the season in the Quick Care Oil and Lube Express/Hurricane Bay Car Wash/B&F Trucking sponsored #6 Ford Thunderbird. Beeler would take second, with Joe Walker, Garnett Eldridge, and Fred Mercer completing the top five. Filiatreau would also be the top qualifier among 10 entries, while Beeler won the dash, while Joe Walker won the heat.

The Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modified feature event would see Derek Groomer jump to the lead at the drop of the green flag and survive a pair of late race cautions and challenges from Michael England to take his first-ever Bluegrass Speedway feature win in the Richard Groomer owned Gentle Dentist/Groomer Construction/Jerry Burton Masonry/Elite Hair Design sponsored #D48 Larry Shaw Race Car, powered by Travis Kern Race Engine. England would settle for second, while Bryan Barber won the battle with Benji Lee for third, while Robbie Gullion scored a fifth place finish. The rest of the top ten would be J.T. Ayers, Dion Benningfield, Gary Parks, Chris Moscrip, and Rocky Wilson. Thirteen entries would see heat race wins scored by Groomer and Ayers.
