Ray Cook Prepares for Clash at the Mag Following Biggest Win of 2011 Season!

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and the D&R Motorsports team recorded their third win of the 2011 racing season and their largest payday of the year on Friday night, July 1 at the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Kentucky! The grueling UMP Summer Nationals tour invaded PIR on Friday and a stout field of competitors were on hand for the 'Chris Smith Memorial.' Ray laid down the third quickest lap in his group during the qualifying session and later won his stacked heat race. After drawing the pole position prior to the start of the 40-lap feature event, Ray led flag-to-flag en route to capturing the $12,000 top prize over Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, Austin Dillon, and Jeep Van Wormer.

Besides Paducah, the #53 team entered three additional races from June 30-July 3 in the states of Tennessee and Ohio. On Thursday evening, Ray finished tenth in a $5,000 to win UMP Summer Nationals program at the Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tennessee. In a pair of $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series battles over the weekend, Ray wound up seventeenth at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday and twelfth at the Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio on Sunday. The Brasstown, North Carolina native currently finds himself ninth in the latest LOLMDS point standings following the doubleheader in the Buckeye State. Complete results from all four races can be located online at www.dirtondirt.com.

“That win at Paducah was huge for our program, as we have had pretty good cars all year, but haven’t had much luck to go with it,” exclaimed Cook this week. “Shannon (Babb) had pulled up alongside of me with a couple of laps to go and a caution came out, which was exactly what I needed. Finally, we caught a break and we were able to capitalize on it and get the win. Hopefully, everything will work out this weekend at Magnolia and we can nail down another big victory!”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will take Ray and the #53 team to the Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi this weekend (July 8-9) for the annual running of the ‘Clash at the Mag.’ Qualifying and heat race action will take place on Friday night, while the consolation races and 100-lap feature event will thrill the fans on Saturday evening. The cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape the $20,000 to win mega-event for broadcast in the upcoming months.
