Saturday night was the best race of the season so far for the "Racing For Fair Tax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Latemodel Series". This race had 17 Outlaws show up for the third of 5 race series. This might turn into a 6 race series with another one being added on August 20th, more details to come.

Fastest qualifier for the night was Scot Smith from Loganville Ga, in the #17 Chevrolet, with a 16.09. David Murphy was second with a 16.25 and David Hodges third with a 16.43. Our GREAT sponsor, Luke Yoder Construction, put out the challenge again for any of the top 3 qualifiers. If they choose to go to the rear for the start, and can win the race, Luke Yoder Const. will give a $500 bonus! The winner of the second series race, David Murphy, took the challenge! On the drop of the green Smith and Hodges battled side by side down the front stretch and into turn one. Smith pulled ahead down the back stretch with Hodges hot on his tail. Just 2 laps into the race Sammy Short, while running 4th, spins off turn 4, this started a chain reaction. Six cars in total were involved with Carl Simpson 21, Mark Bicker 02, Sammy Short 5, and Matthew Wragg 29 with serious damage. Steve Renner 114 and Steve Barker 64 were also involved, but were able to continue on. On the restart, it was still Smith and Hodges on the front row. Once again they charged door to door for turn one with Smith inching ahead for the lead down the back stretch. As the front cars are battling for the top spot, David Murphy #35, who went to the rear for the bonus money, slipped off the top of the track while driving hard to get to the front, sending him to the rear once more. Just before the halfway point, Terry Martin 93 and Stewart Smith 18 came together off turn 4 turning Martin in the outside wall and pinning Stewart's car against the wall with nowhere to go. Both competitors were done for the night. When the race continued Smith held the lead with Hodges running a close second. I personally watched from turn 1 and 2 and could see Hodges pull up to the door of Smith lap after lap but could not complete the pass. Hodges was relentless with his charges for the lead but Smith would not be intimadated. Smith held on for his first win of the series with Hodges second. David Murphy made a last lap pass for third with Billy Chancy 81 forth.

We would like to thank David Hodges and Dusty Cone for coming back out and racing with us for the 3rd race. They both made the correct changes to their cars and came back to put on a great show!

Come out and join us for race 4 on July 30th at the great "Watermelon Capital Speedway"!
