View Full Version : NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Round Up For July 18

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 16 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw the point leaders in both the West Region and Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region pick up wins, and several drivers in the Top 10 of both Region point standings make moves up the list.

West Region point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS grabbed his sixth win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star and OMG East Region point leader Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the ADP Special.

McDuffie, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, netted 10 points on his Best 14 Week point total. McDuffie now has 784 points and holds a 38-point lead over Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL in the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star, who now has 746 West Region points.

McRee turned in a third-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in his final week to score full points, and picked up 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight week of perfect attendance at WMP. Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS moved up to the third spot in his final week to earn full points with a fifth-place finish at WMP. Murphy has 706 points.

Randy Boyd of Marion, MS finished fourth on Saturday night at WMP to net 22 points and is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 699 points. Landon Frith of Terry, MS did not compete in Week 16 action and dropped to the fifth spot with 682 points. Frith still has one more week to earn full points and reach the 14-week mark.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS finished third on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS to net seven points and is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 672 points. Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS reached the 14-week mark with 665 points and is seventh in the West Region standings.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR climbed up to the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 663 points as he has reached the 14-week mark. Casey Haney of Meridian, MS is ninth with 641 points, and Tim Dees of Meridian, MS rounds out the top ten of the West Region standings with 640 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action, Roger Witt of Batesville, AR took his seventh win of the season on Friday night in the 40th Anniversary Race at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR driving The Chrome Shop GRT. Friday night action at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS was rained out.

Mason Oberkramer of Malden, MO picked up his third win of the season on Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO driving the Oberkramer Racing Special. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS took his first win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the Custom Spraying GRT.

The win for Elkins kept him on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings, but he was only able to gain one point on Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, who finished second on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT.

Elkins has 767 points and Gauldin is just two points behind with 765 points. Both drivers have now reached the 14-week mark and will begin netting points. That will give the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region competitors behind them in the point standings an opportunity to close in, as Elkins and Gauldin are the first two drivers to reach the 14-week mark.

Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA finished fourth on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA to move up to third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 674 points. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is fourth with 666 points, and Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is fifth with 662 points.

Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 655 points, and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 590 points. Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is eighth with 582 points, and Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL is ninth with 569 points. Ken Pate of Pell City, AL rounds out the top ten of the OMG East Region standings with 547 points.

In other Week 16 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region action, Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway driving the PW Performance GRT. Friday night racing at Penton Raceway in Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and the Saturday night’s event at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL were rained out.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR remains on top of the point standings with 44 wins on the season after three Week 16 victories from Witt, Barrett and Darda.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL is second in the 2011 standings with a Week 16 win from McDuffie to bring their season total to 38.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 13 points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
