Booper Bare Ends Weekend on a High Note by Winning with the Steel Block Bandits for the Second Week in a Row.

The Chris Cromer/Merrit Sprouse owned, Jimmy’s Tree Service sponsored team experienced the ups and the downs of Steel Block Bandit racing this past weekend. Having back to back races in their backyard, the team was excited about getting to race in front of family and friends. Booper and the team unloaded Friday night at the beautiful Natural Bridge Speedway with hope of closing the slim 8 point lead that friend and fellow driver Walker Arthur held over Booper in the latest edition of the Steel Block Bandits point standings. The night started out as the team had hoped with Booper winning his competitive qualifying heat race enabling him to enter the 40 lap feature tied with Walker for the point lead. Expectations were high with Booper starting 3rd but disappointment set in right at the drop the green, as the #83 pulled up lame. With the car misfiring Booper headed pit side to see if the problem could be diagnosed. Unfortunately distributor problems would be found and the team would be relegated to a 24th place finish also taking a big hit in the standings.

After a rough start to the weekend the team would look to end it on a high note on Saturday as the immaculately prepared yellow/red/black Mastersbilt by Huey was towed to Waynesboro Virginia for the 40 Lap Steel Block Bandit sanctioned race at Eastside Speedway. Once again Booper won his qualifying heat race, giving him a front row starting spot for the 40 lap feature. The team made great choices preparing the car because once the green flag was waved; Booper put the #83 out front and held off the constant challenges from second running Walker Arthur to win the Chris Loan Memorial and his second victory in as many weeks.

“It was really great to win at Eastside” said Booper from his Rockbridge County race shop. “That was my first win at that speedway and it’s always neat to win at a new track. Friday night was a shame; it was a little part in the distributor that broke. In all my years racing I have never had or even heard of that part breaking” added Booper.

“This team is just great, there is no quit in these guys. We worked hard to get back in the points only to have the part failure on Friday. To rebound with a win on Saturday says a lot about this team. I’m very proud to be driving for Merritt and Chris and this team. We can’t worry about the points, our goal is to go out and win as many races as we can and the points will fall where they will” said Bare.

With the Steel Block Bandit’s off the next couple of weeks, Booper and the team will change motors and go racing with the supers. As of Monday plans are for the team to compete this coming Saturday at Virginia Motor Speedway in a 50 lap $10,000 to win Summer Heat 50 sanctioned by the Ultimate Super late Model Series.
