Payoff Increase for UFo Eriksen Grand Prix Makes $36,000 Weekend at Hesston & Thunder Valley!
(Mars, PA) Hesston Speedway is ready for its next major Super Late Model event, The UFo “Sonny & Peggy Eriksen Grand Prix” on Saturday, August 6 presented by G & R Excavating of Tyrone, PA and Frankland Racing Supply. With the strong driver and fan support of the initial UFo events at Hesston, promoter Dave Eriksen has increased the payoff to $5,000 to win for the Super Late Models. The $3,000 to win, 3 State Flyers “Laurel Highlands Classic” at the Thunder Valley Raceway on Friday night, August 5 will make it an $8,000 total to win, $36,000 weekend for the Super Late Models in the region.
The UFo “Eriksen Grand Prix” is a tribute to the track’s founders Sonny and Peggy Eriksen. This race will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the track that opened in 1961. The track returned to the Eriksen family in 2009, and has seen massive improvements each year as it becomes a showplace in clay track racing in central Pennsylvania.
The UFo “Ericksen Grand Prix” will showcase a 50th anniversary-lap feature for4 the UFo Super Late Models paying $5,000 to win, $400 to start and $150 for non-qualifiers. Jeremy Miller of Littlestown, PA, Ron Delano Jr. of Stoystown, PA and Jeff Rine of Danville, PA have captured UFo wins at Hesston in 2011.
The UFo “Eriksen Grand Prix” will be a double late model-type program and a bonanza for late model fans. The track’s exciting Late Model Sportsman division will be in competition for $1,000 to win and $100 to start. With the Frankland bonus card that will be equivalent to $175 to the race teams that start the feature. The track’s Pro-Street, Hobby, Mod-4 and Factory-4 will compete in extended-lap, features only program. Drivers are reminded at Hesston RACEceviers are required and that a driver can compete in only 1 division at any racing program.
In addition to the payoff increase, Frankland Racing Supply has made the event stronger by providing a great bonus to 75 Super Late Model and Late Model Sportsman teams. The first 40 Super Late Model teams and first 35 Late Model Sportsman teams to sign in will receive a $75 Frankland gift card. The race payoff for the UFo Super Late Models will be $400 to start and $150 money for non-qualifiers. The combined total of payoff and bonus card will boost the race to an equivalent of $475 to start and $225 tow money for the UFo pilots. Race teams are reminded that UFo events have no driver entry fee, so there are no deductions from this payoff. Thunder Valley Raceway will present a special Friday night show on August 5. The 3 State Flyers will invade the track for the 1st time in 2011 for the “Laurel Highlands Classic.” The 35 lap championship feature will pay $3,000 to win and $300 to start, and $100 for non-qualifiers. The two events combined will make for an $8,000 to win, $36,000 weekend in the region for the Super Late Models.
The track’s Semi-Late, Pure Stock and Buzzbomber 4-cylinders will also be on the program. Chad McClellan of Stoystown, PA is the defending race champion.
At Thunder Valley, gates will open at Thunder Valley at 5:30 with warm-ups at 7:15 and racing at 7:45. Grandstand admission will be $18 with children 10 and under admitted free. All pit tickets will be $30.

The UFo Race Championship is in action this weekend on Saturday July 23 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway. UFo and ULMS will face off in twin 28 lap features paying $4,000 total to win, $350 total to start and $150 to non-qualifiers. PPMS’s racey surface and the twin feature format typically provides outstanding racing. The Pro-Lates, E-mods and Cadets will race for bonus money. Super Late Models, E-mods and Cadets will utilized an open-brand tire rule for this event. The Hobby & Young Gun divisions will also be on the program.
At PPMS on July 23, gates open at 5:00 with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00 following track prep. Grandstands will be $20, seniors $19, junior 13-16 $10, children 7-12 $5 and $35 for all pit tickets.

Participating speedways presents their own championship Super Late Model events under the UFo banner throughout the season using common tech and procedure rules with a year-end, group funded, point bonus for the top finishing drivers on the tour.
