Tazewell, Tennessee – For the seventh year in a row, Tazewell Speedway hosts the final race of the Ray Cook promoted Schaffer Oil Southern National Series on Saturday, July 23. The 53-lap, $5,300 to win race will decide this year’s Southern Nationals championship.

Chris Madden has been leading the points most of the way and will be looking to clinch a championship with a Tazewell win. Madden won the World of Outlaws race at Tazewell earlier this month. Jonathan Davenport, Tony Knowles, Donald Bradsher, Johnny Pursley, and Casey Roberts are all in title contention.

In last year’s race, Davenport and Madden traded the lead back-and-forth several times in the closing laps. Davenport grabbed the lead for the final time and clinched the series title with the win.

All the drivers chasing points for Schaffer’s Southern Nationals will also have to do battle with some of the area’s top drivers. Former series champion Tommy Kerr, Billy Ogle Jr., Vic Hill, Mike Weeks, Steve Smith, and others will also be looking to win and claim the $5,300 winner’s check.

Also racing on Saturday will be the modified streets, pure streets, four cylinders, and classic cars.

General admission tickets are $20 for adults with kids 10 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 3:00 and grandstand gates open at 5:00. Racing will start at 7:45.

Tazewell Speedway is located just two miles northwest of Tazewell, Tennessee. Going north on US 25-E, turn right and then left onto Bacchus Rd, and then 1.8 miles north, then .8 miles west and the race track is located on the left.
