CARTERSVILLE, GA – Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL is the new point leader in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region after he was awarded his fifth victory of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT in Week 17 action.

Gauldin took the checkered flag in third-place, but was awarded the win after the engines of the apparent first and second-place finishers, Ryan King of Anniston, AL and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL, were found to have illegal valve springs during the post-race technical inspection and were disqualified.

Elkins was the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader coming into the event. The disqualification drops Elkins down into the second spot of the OMG East Region standings. Gauldin netted seven points to bring his best 14-week Regional point total to 772, while Elkins has 767 points.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS took his seventh win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. The victory netted the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Champion five points to bring his Regional season total to 789 points.

McDuffie and Gauldin both have possible “perfect seasons” of 800 points going if they can collect 14 50-point wins to go with the 100 Regional Bonus points they both have already earned.

Gauldin has five 50-point wins, three 49-point second place finishes, one 48-point third-place finish, four 46-point fifth-place finishes, and one 43-point eighth-place finish that make up his best 14 week point total. McDuffie has six 50-point wins, six 49-point second-place finishes, one 48-point third-place finishes, and one 47-point fourth-place finish that make up his best 14-week point total.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS became a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region title contender with his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the Palasini Farms Special.

Palasini collected 75 points on Saturday night with the 50-point win and 25 Regional Bonus points for his fourth straight night of perfect attendance. That brought his Regional point total to 683 points that includes 100 Regional Bonus Points and vaulted him from 15th to fifth in the West Region standings.

Palasini still has two more weeks to earn full points before he reaches his 14th week of competition. Palasini is another driver looking at a perfect season. His 12 week total includes seven 50-point wins, two 49-point second-place finishes, two 47-point fourth-place finishes, and one 41-point finish outside the top ten.

Third through fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings respectively are Mike Combs of Odenville, AL with 714 points, Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA with 710 points, and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL with 704 points.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL with 701 points is in the sixth spot, Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is seventh with 644 points, Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL has 616 points in the eighth spot, Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is ninth with 590 points, while Ken Pate of Pell City, AL and Bret Holmes of Eastaboga, AL are tied for tenth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 547 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 17 action, the defending NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL took his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL.

Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL picked up his second win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the Charco, Inc. Trak-Star, and Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA drove the PW Performance GRT to his fifth win of the season, and his fourth straight, on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.

Darda, who is tied with Huss for the 13th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings, will be one to watch in the coming weeks as he can still earn full points for another five weeks. Darda has already earned his 100 Regional Bonus points.

Following McDuffie in the Top 5 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings after the first 17 weeks of the 27-week season are Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL in second with 746 points, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS in third with 706 points, Randy Boyd of Marion, MS in fourth with 699 points, and Palasini in fifth with 683 points.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 682 points. Frith still has one more week to earn full points, and he can also earn another 25 Regional Bonus points.

Rounding out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings are Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS in seventh with 676 points, Chandler Petty of Austin, AR moved up to eighth with 669 points, Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS is ninth with 665 points, and Kenny Carpenter of Cleveland, MS moved into the tenth spot with 664 points, and can earn full points for two more weeks. Carpenter has earned his 100 Regional Bonus Points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 14 action, Travis Ashley of Batesville, AR took his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR driving the Bad Boy Mowers GRT. Ashley moved into the Top 20 of the West Region standings and still has two more weeks to earn full points.

Points Ashley has earned in ten of his 12 weeks of competitions this season have come in 40-point races with car counts of seven or less. Once Ashley reaches the 14-week mark, can attempt to net a lot of points if he can compete in 50-point races with car counts of eight or more.

Saturday night West Region races at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS were rained out.

The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point leader GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR picked up three wins in Week 17 competition from Gauldin, Darda and Ashley. That brings the three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion’s season point total to 47.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL scored two Week 17 wins from McDuffie and Huss to stay a close second with 40 points.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 13 points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
