CARTERSVILLE, GA – NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 18 competition will see ten events in five different states. There will be six races in the West Region and four races in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region. Several drivers in both Regions will be looking to move up the point standings by racing for full points and earning Regional Bonus Points.

The Week 18 action in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region opens on Friday night with races scheduled for Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO.

Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will highlight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action on Saturday night with the $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge Race. Other West Region Saturday night events will be held at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, and Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.

Penton Raceway in Penton, AL opens Week 18 competition in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region on Friday night. Saturday night OMG East Region events are scheduled for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS leads the West Region standings with a best 14-week point total of 789 points. McDuffie will be looking to net on his lowest weekly point total of 47. McDuffie can net three points with a 50-point victory.

McDuffie has a 43-point lead over Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. McRee will be looking to net on his lowest weekly point total among his 14-week total of 41 points. McRee can net nine points with a 50-point victory.

There are still three drivers among the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings that are still racing for full points, as they have not yet reached the 14-week mark of their 2011 season.

The fifth-place driver, Duke Palasini of Leland, MS still has more two weeks to earn full points. Palasini can move into the top three of West Region standings with a 50-point win in Week 18 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competition.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS, the sixth-place driver in the Nesmith Chevrolet WRS West Region point standings, is another driver with the potential to move into the top three of the West Region standings. If Frith competes on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway, he will earn 25 Regional Bonus Points for his fourth straight week of attendance at that track.

Kenny Carpenter of Cleveland, MS is tenth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings and still has one more week to compete for full points before he reaches the 14-week mark of competition.

A driver looking to race his way into the West Region Top 10 of the point standings is Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS. Arnold is 12th in the West Region points chase, 15 points out of the tenth spot, and still has one more week to race for full points. Arnold can collect 25 Regional Bonus Points by racing this Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park with his fourth straight night of racing at HMP.

There is a tight point battle for the top spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings, as just five points separate point leader Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and second-place Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL. Gauldin will be trying to net on a 43, and Elkins will be trying to net on a 41.

Six of the Top 10 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region are still racing for full points and looking to move up the standings. Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL in the fifth spot, the seventh-place driver Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL, and the eighth-place driver Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL still have one more week to earn full points.

The ninth-place driver Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL has three more weeks to earn full points. Ken Pate of Pell City, AL and Bret Holmes of Eastaboga, AL are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region point standings, and both drivers can earn full points for two more weeks.

Pate can earn 25 Regional Bonus Points by competing on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track with his fourth straight night of perfect attendance. Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL, the sixth-place driver in the OMG East Region point standings, is another driver that can earn 25 Regional Bonus Points by competing on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
