Never had this happen before and it scared the %^&#@ out me.

2300 Ford. Last race out it sheared teeth off the aux shaft and distributor. Cleaned EVERYTHING out, conventional 10-40 oil, new Fram filter, new pump (std Melling - no high volume or high pressure) and pickup, etc. Went to start it tonight, and as soon as it fired, oil pressure gauge pegged and it blew the o-ring/seal on the filter - oil everywhere!

What happened? and what should I look for?

check to see if by chance there are 2 o-rings between the filter and block

yes somthing is in the pump RV.. I had one with a yellow o-ring in it. no idea where it came from but 100+ psi of oil pressure did the motor no good.

Im not familiar with the 2300 motors or what filters are avaliable but do yourself a favor and get rid of the fram filter. If you can use a racing filter. I lost a motor using a regular filter. High oil pressure blew the guts outof the inside of the filter and restrited the flow of oil to the bearings.

it aint the filter cuz the preshure releif valve would dump off before blowin out the filter oring. i run frams and aint never had no problems ever

All the above is a good reason to ALWAYS pre-prime the oil system with an electric drill/pump drive before starting the engine subsequent to any failure/repair. The pressure problem would likely have been observed with the drill turning the pump. -Dave-

I did prime it with a drill beforehand and it pumped the oil all up to the head, but I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the gauge? Maybe I didn't 'prime' it long enough or fast enough?
