STARS Volunteer Racing Series visits Volunteer Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 6 for 'Fan Appreciation Night'

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The calendar shows it's that time once again, the start of a new school year around the East Tennessee region. It also means the always popular Fan Appreciation Night at Volunteer Speedway, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6.

Highlighting the racing program will be the first-ever appearance at the track by the STARS (Short Track Auto Racing Series) Volunteer Racing Series Super Late Models for the $3,000-to-win "Back To School Bash 40." Also in action will be the Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Pro Late Model and “Gunslingers of Kingsport” Hobby Stock divisions. No Road Warrior racing on Aug. 6, however, Road Warriors will be allowed to run in the Hobby Stock feature.

Adult grandstand admission for Fan Appreciation Night is $10, youth (ages 12-15) $8, with kids 11-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $25, regardless of age.

Prior to the evening of racing, all fans will be allowed to come down onto the front straightaway and into the infield pit area to have a "meet-and-greet" session with all the drivers and to get an up-close look at the race cars. Drivers' will have goodies to hand out representing themselves and their sponsors (photos, race cards, keychains, buttons, hats, T-shirts and candy) to the fans.

Also, throughout the night the track will have many prize giveaways to distribute to lucky fans in attendance.

"Ever since we held our first Fan Appreciation Night 10 years ago it's evolved into one of our most anticipated night's of racing each year," said track owner Joe Loven. "It's exciting just sitting up in the grandstands watching the cars race around the high banks. But to get the opportunity to go down on the track and walk around and see how steeply banked the turns are, plus getting to look the race cars over and meet the drivers, it's very special to many people. It just gives the fans a totally different perspective of what actually occurs on a race-night when they get to go down and walk on the track and meet the drivers and talk with them.

"The economy currently isn't in the greatest shape and there are quite a few people around the East Tennessee region who are unemployed, and a night of racing headlining Super Late Models for a $3,000-to-win main event for only $10 adult admission is a really good bargain for all the race fans. I feel that with only a $10 adult admission charge, plus with kids age 11-and-under being admittied for free, if anybody wants to come out for a night of good dirt-track racing action it's definitely affordable. I truly believe everyone who attends will really enjoy themselves."

Both the grandstand and pit gate will open Saturday, Aug. 6 at 5 p.m. The driver's meeting will be held in the backside pits around 6:30 p.m.

On-track Fan Appreciation Night activities are scheduled to take place for approximately one-hour, from 6:45 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. After a break to allow everyone to get back up into the grandstands and for the racers to get their cars back up into the outside pits to quickly prepare them for the night of racing, hotlaps are set to begin around 8:15 p.m. to be followed by qualifying and then racing action.

STARS Volunteer Racing Series purse: 1) $3,000, 2) $1,500, 3) $1,000, 4) $850, 5) $700, 6) $600, 7) $500, 8) $450, 9) $425, 10) $400, 11) $360, 12) $350, 13) $340, 14) $330, 15) $320, 6) $310, 17) $300, 18) $300, 19) $300, 20) $300, 21) $300, 22) $300.
