I know this sounds repetitive BUT...... Saturday night July 30th was the best race of the season so far for the "Racing for Fairtax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Latemodel Series". This race saw 10 Outlaws take the green flag chasing the $1000 to win first prize.

Fastest qualifier for the night was again Scot Smith from Loganville Ga. in the #17 chevrolet with a time of 16.62. David Hodges of Valdosta was second with a 16.80 and Dusty Cone also of Valdosta was third with a 16.88. Fourth was Stuart Dutton of Tallahasse Fla. with a time of 16.90, one of his best qualifying efforts so far this year and fifth was Steve Barker of Hampton, Ga. with a time of 16.98.

On the drop of the green, Smith and Hodges raced door to door down the front stretch and into turn 1. Smith slowly pulled ahead down the back stretch with Hodges hot on his bumper. The caution flew on lap 5 as #97 Mitchell Thomaston slid off the track in turn #2. This set up a double file restart between Smith and Hodges, and once again they went at it going door to door down the front straight, around turns 1 & 2 and down the back straight away side by side. Smith finally gained the lead but Hodges was right on his bumper looking inside and outside trying to find an opening. This was clearly some great driving between two very talented drivers with evenly matched racers. Behind them there was a great battle going on for third between Dusty Cone and Billy Chancey. The fans in the stands didn't know which battle to watch. Then behind them Stuart Dutton and Jimmy Chancey were having a great race also. There was great racing all around the track.
Around lap 15 the #16 of Walt Bazemore spun his machine in turn two bringing out the caution once again. This set up a side by side restart between Smith and Hodges. This time Hodges was able to out gun Smith down the front straight and took the lead in turn 2. This time it was Smiths turn to peek inside and outside Hodges, but he could never make the pass. Both drivers showed great car control with some very exciting moves.
Around lap 20 Mitch Thomaston spun again putting the race under caution for the third time. #32 Stuart Dutton appeared to have damage and pulled into the pits, ending a great night for him as he had worked his way to third.
On the restart, it was still Smith and Hodges charging door to door toward turn one with Smith inching ahead down the backstretch. As the front two cars battled for the lead, once again Cone and Billy Chancey were battling it out for third.
At the end it was Scot Smith taking the checkers to become the Series first repeat winner. Second was David Hodges, third was Dusty Cone edging out Fourth place finisher Billy Chancey. Fifth went to Steve Barker who battled with sixth place finisher Jim Chancey most of the race. Seventh place went to #008 Lavon Kitchens, who did a great job of driving in his first ever late model race. Eighth was Walt Bazemore, a Vintage car driver who was filling in for the David Hodges team in their back-up car. Ninth went to Mitchell Thomaston who is showing a lot of improvement, as this is his first season ever driving any kind of race car. Tenth went to hard luck driver Stuart Dutton.

The Racing For Fairtax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw series is currently having discussions about adding a couple of races to this years schedule. The first date we are considering is August 20th. We hope to make the announcment by Friday August 5th if all parties involved can come to an agreement. We will issue an announcement on here, on the track web-site, and facebook and by e-mail to all drivers that are registered with us.
