track is a 1/3m .29m by Google Earth measurements

looking to get a new cam want to turn 7500-8000 max rpm (stock rods and crank)

ford 2.3l

D shaped track front stretch is 760 feet approx and where you turn most rpm

cam rule is solid cam .454 max lift at valve

getting beat on low end and cam runs out 200 feet to soon gearing is spot on curent cam is just lacking low end torque for restarts once up and running car runs not bad looking for maybe a better overall cam

custom grind or what ever just looking at some starting numbers to go on

Go to Schneidercams.com & take a look @ their solid cams for a 2.3L & appropriate rpm range. If in doubt, give Kevin or Gerry Cantrell a call. Since way back when, they've probably ground more 2.0/2.3/2.5L SOHC Ford cams than anyone in the U.S. And they have up to (6) different lobe heights for those cams, to get you the right max NET valve lift! -Dave-

well i got my cam cut last year just to find out Schneider has the same one
cams good for 3000-7000
now i see why im slacking on the starts down around 1500 if i set the pace im fine. just when im back in trafic and this makes sense after seeing the rpm range for the cam, i got . as always thanks dave you solved my main problem and all you did is steer me in the right direction

Maybe your car is too tight binding up the engine coming off. Try to loosen it.

no not the problem its probably one of the best handling wise i can tell when its hooked and bogging it down, its just cams not in the right rpm range for the starts if i set the pace its fine

overall i happy just looking for that little bit extra

have you tried advancing or retarding the cam? really not enough info here as for your track size, engine combo, tire size,final,etc...

yes i have been both ways with the cam , tried different tires , and different gears .

track size in my first post . 1/3m
stock 2.3 with cut head and my current cam is .454 total at the valve 280 duration

gear 3.27 with a 4 speed with 2.14 6.99 total

hit 7000 down the short straight hit 75 -78 down the front straight 3.08 just not enough 3.45 way to much

5 speed with a 3.08 might be close but dont want to turn crazy rpms ether 8000 max

what is the lobe center on your current cam,and is this solid or hydraulic?

You'll never find a cam that will pull down and make power at 1500 rpm and still hit 8000 and have power. Maybe you should shift on restarts, free the car a little more for traffic.

header? try a smaller collector or extention pipe. we gained about 400 to 500 rpm . went from 3in to 2.5

well the headers a custom tuned header made for specs pipe max suggested and i did notice a slight improvement over what it had before .

ill have to do some more digging thanks for the input guys
