Dale McDowell Readies for North/South 100 Following Top Dog 50 Triumph!

(CHICKAMAUGA, GEORGIA) Chickamauga, Georgia ace Dale McDowell captured his first checkered flag of the 2011 racing season on Thursday night, August 4 at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia! Dale laid down the second quickest lap during qualifying, which locked him into the outside of the front row for the unsanctioned 'Top Dog 50.' The popular driver known as the "MacDaddy" grabbed the top spot at the drop of the green flag and led wire-to-wire in the 50-lapper. Dale claimed the $5,000 payday in beating Ronnie Johnson, Ray Cook, William Thomas, and Randy Weaver to the checkers!

On Friday evening, the action quickly turned north to the Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia for a $3,000 to win Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) showdown. Dale qualified fastest in his group during time trials and led the majority of the race from the outside front row. However, eventual winner Ray Cook was able to drive past McDowell in lapped traffic with about ten circuits remaining and Dale was forced to settle for a strong runner-up performance. Saturday's $5,000 to win Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) battle at the Cleveland (TN) Speedway was then rained-out. Full results can be obtained online at www.dirtondirt.com.

“We have been running better here as of late, so hopefully that is a good sign for the rest of the year,” commented McDowell earlier this week. “It was a lot of fun to race around the house at some places we don’t get to visit very much because of the Lucas Oil deal. We had a great car at North Georgia on Thursday and a pretty good one at Boyd’s as well. Ray (Cook) was just more maneuverable through lapped traffic and he deserved to win the race. Hopefully, we can keep running up front, especially in some of these bigger races coming up on our schedule!”

The Clint Bowyer Racing team now has their sights set on the huge ‘North/South 100’ weekend at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on August 12-13. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction the crown jewel event and the cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on the grounds to capture all of the action. Qualifying will take place on Friday night, while the heat races, consolation events, and the $50,000 to win ‘North/South 100’ are all scheduled for Saturday evening.
