CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 20 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will see eight races in five states. There will six races in the West Region and two events in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region. The Top 10 of the point standings in both Regions are tightening up as drivers begin to net points in an effort to better their top 14 weekly point totals.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 20 action begins on Friday night with a pair of races at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events are scheduled for Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS which will host a $1,000-to-win main event, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region will see a pair of Saturday night races at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, and at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS leads the West Region point standings going into Week 20 action with 792 points. McDuffie will be trying to net on a third-place 48 point finish. McDuffie will have to finish first or second in a 50-point race to better his 14-week season Regional point total.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 774 points and will be trying to net on the lowest weekly point total of his best 14 at 41. Landon Frith of Terry, MS is third with 748 points and will be trying to net on a 41. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is fourth with 746 points, and will also be trying to net on a 41.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is fifth in the West Region standings with 726 points, and will be trying to net on a 43. Jordan can also pick up 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight appearance this Saturday night at Greenville Speedway. That would bring Jordan’s Regional Bonus Point total added to his best 14 weekly point total to the maximum of 100.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR is sixth in the West Region standings with 715 points and will be trying to net on a 39. Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS is seventh with 709 points and will be looking to net on a 41. Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is eighth with 706 points and will be attempting to net on a 25.

Randy Boyd of Marion, MS and Kenny Carpenter of Cleveland, MS are tied for the tenth spot in the West Region standings with 705 points apiece and both drivers will be trying to net on 41s.

There are three drivers outside the Top 10 of the West Region standings that will be looking to use their last week of earning full points and/or Regional Bonus Points for four weeks of perfect attendance to move up the standings.

Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS is currently 12th in the West Region standings with 672 points and has one more week to race for full points before reaching the 14-week mark of his season. If Harrison competes at Greenville Speedway this Saturday night, he will also receive 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS has one more week to earn full points, and will receive 25 Regional Bonus Points by competing this Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. Arnold is 18th in the West Region standings with 649 points. Travis Ashley of Batesville, AR is 20th in the West Region standings with 639 points and has one more week to earn full points.

Talladega, AL drivers Jimmy Elkins Jr., Adam Gauldin and Brian Ponder hold the top three spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point standings. Elkins leads Gauldin by one point 780 to 779 and both drivers will be looking to net on low 14-week point totals of 41.

Ponder was awarded 25 Regional Bonus Points since Monday’s posting due to his fourth straight week of perfect attendance last Saturday night at Talladega Short Track. That moved Ponder up to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 732 points. Ponder will be looking to net on a 43 in Week 20 competition.

Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is fourth in the OMG East Region standings with 721 points and will be looking to net on a 37. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is fifth with 720 points and will be looking to move up the standings by netting on a 41 and receiving 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight week of competition this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 689 points and will be looking to net on a 38. Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL is seventh with 657 points and will be trying to move up the standings by netting on a 41 and earning 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.

Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is eighth in the OMG East Region standings with 650 points and will attempt to net on a 35. Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is ninth with 639 points and is in a position to move up into the Top 5, as he has two more weeks to earn full points.

Ken Pate of Pell City, AL rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 633 points, and will be looking to net on a 41. Ryan King of Anniston, AL is 11th in the OMG East Region standings with 632 points and will be looking to move up into the Top 10 with his last week to earn full points.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
