A track close by is starting a new 4 cylinder class and one rule stipulation is any engine over 1800cc must run an automatic transmission. A friend has a celica already partially built with a 22R, so my question is, are their different Toyota trannys that would work behind this engine? Any guidance would be greatly appreicated!

There is only one auto tranny that you can run behind the 22R in a Celica. You can bolt on one from a later model pick-up (85-95), but it may need driveshaft work and you need the computer that controls it.
However, you can change the rear gears to spool the tranny up quicker. You should add a tranny cooler to the lines too. It will make it last longer.

run a 6.7" or 7.5" rear end and the 4.30 pumkin with the A40 2nd gear,
1.45 that'll give you around 6.235 final. if you need more gear,
use the 7.5" rear.. lots of gears available shorter then 4.30.
trans cooler will be mandatory to not overheat that tranny.
