CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 20 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw Talladega, AL drivers Adam Gauldin and Jimmy Elkins Jr. race to a tie for the point lead in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point standings, and West Region point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS take his ninth win of the season.

Gauldin and Elkins finished second and third respectively on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and each driver ended the evening with 782 points on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings.

McDuffie now has 794 points to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings after taking the win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. McDuffie was able to net two points on his best 14-week total.

The best 14-week Regional point total for McDuffie includes eight 50-point wins, six 49-point second-place finishes, and 100 Regional Bonus Points. McDuffie will now have to win 50-point races to net any additional points. A perfect 14-week Regional point total is 800 points.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion now holds a 20-point lead over Duke Palasini of Leland, MS. Palasini’s 14-week Regional point total of 774 points includes eight 50-point wins, two 49-point second-place finishes, two 47-point fourth-place finishes, two 41-point finishes of tenth or worse, and 100 Regional Bonus Points.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 750 points, and Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is fourth with 746 points. McRee is still eligible to earn an additional 25 Regional Bonus Points to earn his allotment of 100.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS took his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star. Jordan is fifth in the West Region standings with 733 points. Jordan can still earn an additional 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 715 points. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS finished second on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park to move up to the seventh spot with 713 points.

Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS is eighth with 709 points, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is ninth with 706 points, and Kenny Carpenter of Cleveland, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 705 points.

The Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event scheduled for Malden Speedway in Malden, MO was rained out, as were Saturday night scheduled West Region races at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR and Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS did not report their Friday night West Region results.

Gauldin would technically be the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader based on the tie-breaker, as he has five wins to Elkins’ four wins.

The 14-week total for Gauldin includes five 50-point wins, five 49-point second-place finishes, one 48-point third-place finish, one 47-point fourth-place finish, two 46-point fifth-place finishes, and 100 Regional Bonus Points. Elkins’ 14-week point total includes four 50-point wins, six 49s, one 48, two 47s, one 46, and 100 Regional Bonus Points.

Mike Combs of Odenville, AL used a sixth-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track and 25 Regional Bonus Points with fourth straight night of racing at TST to move up to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region behind Gauldin and Elkins. Combs has 749 points.

Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 735 points, and Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is fifth with 729 points. Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is sixth with 689 points and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL finished third on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA to move up to the seventh spot with 687 points.

Ogletree will be looking to move up the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point standings in the final seven weeks of the season, as he can still earn full points for one more week before he reaches the 14-week mark, and he can still earn an additional 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Ryan King of Anniston, AL took his third straight win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the David King Automotive Special. The victory moved King into a tie for the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings at 682 points apiece. Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL rounds out the Top 10 with 650 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 20 action, Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA picked up his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway driving the PW Performance GRT.

Darda’s win gave the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point leader and three-time champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR their 50th win of the season.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL scored a pair of Week 20 wins from McDuffie and Jordan to close to within four points of the point leader. Trak-Star Race Cars now has 46 wins in the second spot.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 14 points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
