(RINGGOLD-CHATTANOOGA) As the season heads into its final stretch the point’s battle heats up even more in the local divisions at Boyd’s Speedways 1/3 mile clay oval. With a full field of racers signed in to compete with new competitors arriving each week to challenge the local regular’s racers. First out brought the qualifying heats to set the lineups for the nights Feature Events. First up would bring the B-Hobby’s to the racing surface in two 6 lap heats. In Heat #1 Division Points Leader Dallas Brook leads the way while Brandon Francis took Heat race #2. Next out would bring the Crate Late Models with Jeff Smith taking the pole position for the nights feature alongside current point’s leader Jason Welshan taking heat #2. A hard crash in Heat #1 heavily damaged the machines of Kevin Burke and Thomas Gray sending them home early. Up next would bring the 20 car field of A-Hobby’s for the two 8 lap heats. In Heat #1 Blake Armitage would show the way while Lynn Gibson took Heat #2. The Steel-Headed Late Models rolled to the clay surface for their two 12 lap heats. In Heat #1 Cleveland’s Lamar Scoggins took the pole position for the nights feature while Ringgold’s Kevin Gibson held off a hard charging Jamie Perry for the second heat win. The night’s final heats brought the FWD to run a single 6 lap shootout heat race. Thomas Gilbert held off Steve “Wrong way” Boyd to capture the pole position for the nights feature.

The nights first Feature brought the heavy machines of the B-Hobby Division to the front stretch. With current points leader and multiple feature winner Dallas Brooks starting from the front row pole position the field had its work cut out for them. Brooks going for victory #12 on the season he brought the field to the green flag. After several failed double file start the field final got under way with Brooks leading from flag to flag. Brooks held off a hard challenge from 2nd place point’s runner-up Corey Sanders. Rounding out the top five was Mike Chapman, Brandon Francis and Michael Brooks.

Next up would see the Crate Late Models roll off with a pair of true competitors in Maryville’s Jason Welshan sitting alongside of pole sitting Chatsworth’s Jeff Smith leading the way. These two have brought their “A” game each and every week to please the fans with some of the best racing around. Welshan would take the lead from the outside on lap 1until the field was slowed for the spinning Cody Martin in turn 2 on lap 3. The caution would fly just two laps later as a multiple car pileup in turn 4 saw the cars of Scott Ohms, Tommy Miller and Chip Burke. The damage was bad enough to end the night for Scott Ohms. Once back under green the field would settle down and run the remaining laps caution free. Welshan would continue to lead and began to pull away from the field as he sliced his way through lapped traffic. Following Welshan to the checkered would be Jeff Smith, Mike Weeks, Chris Wilson (would found to be light at the scales by 8 pounds and DQ’d), Craig Burrows and Robby Mason. The track officials then took the top five to the pits for further Crate Engine inspection and all cars were found to be legal.

The every growing A-Hobby’s rolled off next with Blake Armitage and Lynn Gibson leading the way. An early lap 1 caution brought the field to a complete stop under a red flag while a heavy pile of racing machines in turn 1 were untangled. Blake Armitage piloting a new looking ride lead the way once back under green. Blake would go onto capturing another Boyd’s Speedway Victory followed by Booger Brooks, Lynn Gibson, Tony Todd and Jordon Rodabaugh.

The Nights Feature Event brought the 18 car field of Steel-Headed Late Models for the start of their 25 lap $1000 to win feature. With a strong field of competitors ready Cleveland’s Lamar Scoggins would lead the field to the green. Scoggins would take the early lead followed by Crossville’s Brandon Williams in tow. A great battle settled in between a pair of Ringgold racers Kevin Gibson and Jamie Perry for the #3 running spot. Scoggins settled into a groove as he clicked off lap after lap. Gibson made a lap 12 pass into the runner-up position as he worked his way around Williams from the top side of the racing surface and he set his sights on the rear bumper of Scoggins. A lap 21 caution for the spinning Andy Miller in turn 4 would set the field up for a four lap shootout. Scoggins had piloted his machine around the bottom all night while Gibson had charged his way to the front from the top side. On the restart Scoggins dropped to the bottom while Gibson shot to the top in turn 1 trying to gain the advantage needed to take the lead away from Scoggins. A lap 23 caution slowed the field once again and set up a green white checkered finish. Scoggins would continue to hold off the charge of Gibson and went on to take the victory closing the division points challenge between him and current point leader Jamie Perry to only 3 points. A protest of the top three was conducted and all were found to be legal. Rounding out the top five was Brandon Williams, Jamie Perry and John Owenby.

The final feature rolled off in the FWD division as Thomas Gilbert continued his streak of wins taking the 12 lap feature and padding his points lead over the field. Gilbert was followed by Richard Hickman, Daniel Burnette, Hailey Cresswell and Steve Boyd.

A great night of racing once again, Thanks for the hard working one-armed Gar (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son(continuing to recover from a shoulder injury) continuing to prepare a great smooth racing surface that makes for some of the best racing in the south.
