CARTERSVILLE, GA – The top two drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region, Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, took wins in Week 21 action, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL used a Week 21 win to take over the point lead in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region.

McDuffie grabbed his series leading tenth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion was able to net one point to bring his best 14-week total to 795.

Palasini drove the Palasini Farms Special to his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Palasini netted nine points to bring his best 14-week total to 783 points, and is now 12 points behind McDuffie with six weeks left in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Both McDuffie and Palasini can still earn perfect point totals of 800.

Elkins picked up his fifth win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to net four points and take over the point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with a total of 786 points. Elkins now holds a three-point lead over Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL.

Gauldin finished fourth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track to net one point on his best 14-week Regional point total. Elkins and Gauldin went into the race tied for the point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings. Both drivers have five wins on the season.

Two drivers made big gains in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS used 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight night of racing on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway to climb from sixth to third in the West Region standings with a best 14-week total of 758 points.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with a best 14-week point total of 750. Frith is one of four drivers that can still compete for the runner-up spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings.

Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL still has a mathematical chance to win the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship. McRee is currently fifth with 746 points, but can still earn 25 Regional Bonus Points to reach the maximum of 100. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is sixth with 745 points.

Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS used his final week to earn full points in reaching the 14-week mark, plus 25 Regional Bonus Points with his fourth straight night of racing at Greenville Speedway, to vault from the 17th spot to seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. Harrison has now accumulated 740 points.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS finished second to McDuffie on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park to net eight points and holds the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 733 points. Arnold can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points before he reaches the maximum of 100.

Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is ninth in the West Region standings with 727 points, and he can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points. Chandler Petty of Austin, AR rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 717 points.

Tim Dees of Meridian, MS took his first win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Pee Wee’s Performance Muffler GRT. The victory put Dees in a position to climb back into the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings. Dees is 18th in the West Region standings with 669 points and can still earn 25 Regional Bonus Points.

The Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region event schedule for Malden Speedway in Malden, MO was rained out.

Trailing Elkins and Gauldin in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings is Mike Combs of Odenville, AL in the third spot with 750 points. Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is fourth with 738 points.

Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA driving the Northeast Alabama Audiology Special to move up to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 737 points. Ogletree is a title contender, as he can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 735 points, and Ryan King of Anniston, AL is seventh with 705 points. Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is eighth with 689 points, and Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL is ninth with 682 points.

Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA finished second behind Ogletree on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway to move up to the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 673 points. Darda is an OMG East Region title contender, as he still has two more weeks to full points before reaching the 14-week mark.

With six weeks to go in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, the championship scenarios will be outlined for both regions on Thursday in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 Preview.

Dee’s win gave the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point leader and three-time champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR their 51st win of the season.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL scored a Week 21 win from McDuffie to stay within four points of the point leader. Trak-Star Race Cars now has 47 wins in the second spot.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 14 points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
