Bluegrass Speedway痴 LOLMDS 11th Annual Cornett Racing Engines Bluegrass Classic Goes to Don O誰eal
Bardstown, KY-August 27, 2011- The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series would make their yearly visit to Bluegrass Speedway for the 11th Annual Cornett Racing Engines Bluegrass Classic and Don O誰eal of Martinsville, IN would score the win in the 50 lap, $10,000 to win event. The win by O誰eal was his consecutive victory in the event and his third overall. Other feature event winners for the evening included Avral Thompson of Loretto, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Sportsman and Mike Bailey of Clarksville, IN in UMP Street Stocks.
Don O誰eal and Dale McDowell would bring the 26 car starting grid to the green flag of chief starter Brian Axsom, but the initial start would be voided for a spin by Lee Devasier. The second attempted start of the race would be a go and O誰eal would again jump to the race lead, with Dale McDowell and Scott Bloomquist battling for second. O誰eal would stretch his lead to about ten lengths while McDowell and Bloomquist continued to battle for second, while Steve Francis and Mike Jewell ran fourth and fifth by lap 9. The only other caution of the event waved on lap 13 when Ray Cook slowed on the backchute and just as the caution waved, fifth place running Mike Jewell would make contact with the retaining wall in turn three, with both drivers done for the night. O誰eal would again quickly scoot away from the field on the restart, while Bloomquist continued to battle McDowell for second, with Francis still in fourth and Brian Birkhofer now in fifth. By lap 20, the racing groove began to narrow up and just past the halfway point, O誰eal would catch the rear of the field. The front five would race nose to tail until lap 40 when O誰eal would finally lap the car of Eric Jacobsen, giving himself some breathing room. The final 10 laps would prove uneventful as O誰eal would see the checkered flag first in the Keith and Tader Masters owned Magnaflow Exhaust/

Rob Jones would have his best finish of the season with second place honors, while Danny Blackwell, Robbie Settles, and Derek Bottoms would complete the top five. In preliminary action, Thompson would also be top qualifier among 10 entries at 19.175 seconds and also win the dash, while Settles would score the heat race checkered flag.
The 12 lap UMP Street Stock feature would turn out to be a two-car battle between Mike Bailey and Scott Beeler, with Bailey holding off the challenges of Beeler to take the checkered flag first in the seat of his NIC Transport/TNT Cheerleading sponsored #5 mount. Beeler would score runner-up honors, while Bryan Derringer, Mark Filiatreau, and Garnett Eldridge completed the top five.
