CARTERSVILLE, GA – The battle for the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship heads to Mississippi for two races over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will host the $5,000-to-win Coca-Cola Zero 75 on September 2-3. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS presents a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race on September 4.

Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 1,008 points and holds a 36-point lead over two-time NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN.

Breuer has two wins, eight top five finishes, 11 top ten finishes in 11 starts, and has earned $13,375 in prize money. Gentry is still looking for his first win of the season, but has 972 points based on six top five finishes and 10 top ten finishes in 11 starts. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is third with 876 points after two top five finishes, six top ten finishes, and one fast time award.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 782 points, and the college freshman also leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings. Edge has four top five finishes, six top ten finishes and one fast time award. VP Racing Fuels will pay $5,000 to the top rookie driver in the point standings at the end of the season.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 774 points and Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC is sixth with 766 points. Mark Tice of Avon, MS is seventh in the overall points and second in the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings with 692 points. VP Racing Fuels is the Official Racing Fuel of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.

Frank Wilson of Harold, FL is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS overall points and third in the VP Racing Fuels RoY standings with 676 points. Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS and Mark Rosner of Maryville, TN are tied for the ninth spot with 548 points apiece. Arnold is also fourth in the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings.

The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion will pocket $20,000 out of the $50,000 point fund that pays back ten spots. In the first 11 events of the season, 156 different drivers have competed and $130,805 in prize money has been paid out.

The top ten drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings are also prevalent in several other series statistical categories, including the Hedman Husler Award presented by Hedman Husler Hedders the Official Hedder of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.

Points are kept for the Hedman Husler Award that will pay $1,000 to the driver with the most points at the end of the season. Hedman Husler points are earned at each race with one point awarded to a driver for each position they improve from the start of the race to the end of the race. Going into the Labor Day Weekend events, just three points separate the top five in the standings.

Gentry leads the Hedman Husler standings with 51 points, while Breuer and Turner are tied for the second spot with 50 points apiece. Lee is fourth with 49 points, and Wilson is fifth with 48 points. Arnold and Tice are tied for the sixth spot with 29 points apiece, while Cooke and Rosner are tied for the eighth spot with 19 points apiece.

Six dirt late model chassis manufacturers are participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge. Chassis builders earn points at each NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring event based on the highest finisher in the main event earning ten points, with a one-point spread on back. One point is awarded for a win and a fast time.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 96 points, including two wins. GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is second with 94 points that include one win and one fast time.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is third with 81 points that includes one win and one fast time.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL is fourth with 79 points with one fast time. Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN is fifth with 59 points and TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is sixth with 44 points.

There have been 535 laps of main event competition in the first 11 races of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS season. Breuer and Gentry have completed every possible lap of main event competition. Turner is third in the Laps Completed category with 471 laps in the books. Cooke is fourth with 452 laps completed and Lee is fifth with 441 laps turned in.

Tice is sixth in the Laps Completed standings with 382 and Edge is seventh with 374 laps completed. Wilson is eighth with 364 laps, Rosner is ninth with 309 laps, and Arnold rounds out of the top ten with 236 laps complete.
