CARTERSVILLE, GA – The point races in both Regions of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the respective $5,000 Championships remained close after Week 22 action, as the top two drivers in the West Region Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, along with the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL posted victories.

McDuffie, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, took his 11th win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. McDuffie was able to net one point on his best 14-week total and now has 796 points, four points away from a perfect point total of 800.

Palasini drove the Palasini Farms Special to his tenth win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS to net nine points and close to within four points of McDuffie with a best 14-week total of 792. With five weeks left in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, Palasini can also still have a perfect season with 800 points.

Both McDuffie and Palasini have to drive to four 50-point wins in the next five weeks to net enough points to get to the 800 point mark. McDuffie has clinched at least a second-place finish in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings, and Palasini has clinched at least a third-place finish and will clinch at least the second spot by netting two more points.

Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL still has a mathematical chance to finish second in the West Region standings by earning 25 Regional Bonus Points and winning out in the rest of the season to earn a potential total of 794 points. McRee finished fourth on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star.

Elkins picked up his sixth win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the ADP Special to net three points, and open up a slim six-point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings over Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL.

Gauldin finished fifth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT and did not net any points. Elkins now has 789 points and Gauldin has 783 points. There are still two more drivers in the hunt for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Championship, Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL and Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA.

By winning out over the next five weeks, Elkins can net up to 797 points. Gauldin, by winning out in the next five weeks, can earn a potential of 796 points. Darda still has one more week to earn full points, and five 50-point wins would net him 796 points. Ogletree can still earn 25 more Regional Bonus Points, and netting out with wins in the next five weeks would give him a total of 794.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 22 action, Rodney Wing of Meridian, MS drove the Lawson Construction Rocket to a $1,000 win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park. The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour will be at WMP on Friday and Saturday nights for the $5,000-to-win Coca-Cola Zero 75.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL grabbed his fifth win of the season on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star. Travis Mosley of Bearden, AR drove the Mosley Holdings Special to his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR.

There are still eight drivers in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region that still have a mathematical opportunity to net enough points in the remaining five weeks of the season to finish in the third spot of the standings.
