View Full Version : Whynot Motorsports Park Drivers Tough Competition For NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Regulars

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The local contingent of local drivers at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS are poised and ready to defend their home turf this Friday night and Saturday night in the $5,000-to-win Coca-Cola Zero 75 against the top drivers on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour.

History shows the Whynot Motorsports Park regulars are always front runners while racing against the out-of-town drivers that follow the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series when they appear at the fast, wide and competitive 3/8-mile clay oval.

Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS will be looking for his first NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring win at his home track this weekend. McDuffie is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, and leads the West Region point standings in quest of his second title.

Weekly Saturday night dirt late model racing at Whynot Motorsports Park is sanctioned by the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series, a series designed for non-traveling weekly racers who compete against drivers at other sanctioned through a points system over a 27-week period that counts a driver’s best 14-week point totals. McDuffie has 11 wins this season.

Six of McDuffie’s NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series wins have come at Whynot Motorsports Park. Along with McDuffie, there are several other drivers that are in the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.

Former Whynot Motorsports Park Late Model Champion Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with one win this season at Whynot Motorsports Park. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is sixth in the West Region standings, and has six WMP wins this season.

Another former Whynot Motorsports Park Late Model Champion, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is seventh in the West Region standings and has one win this season at Whynot Motorsports Park. Tim Dees took his first win of the season two weeks ago at Whynot Motorsports Park and is 17th in the West Region standings.

Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS, Casey Haney of Meridian, MS, and Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS are Whynot Motorsports Park regulars that are 18th through 20th respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings.

Seven-time Mississippi State Late Model Champion Mike Boland of Cuba, AL is always a front runner at Whynot Motorsports Park and is a two-time Coca-Cola Zero 75 Champion at Whynot Motorsports Park. Although he only runs a limited schedule each season with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, Boland is second all-time on the series win list with ten victories.

Boland not only competes as a driver, but also as a chassis manufacturer, as he builds Trak-Star Race Cars out of his Boland Performance shops in Cuba, AL. Trak-Star Race Cars is the defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion, and the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Chassis Champion.

The Whynot Motorsports Park regulars will be taking on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series regulars led by point leader Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC. Breuer, a two-time winner this season, leads two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN by 36 points.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings and will be looking to compete in his 118th consecutive series event. Known as “The Ironman,” Turner is the only driver to compete in every NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series event held since the series inception in 2005.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings, and also leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings. VP Racing Fuels, the Official Racing Fuel of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, will pay $5,000 to the top finishing rookie driver in the point standings at the end of the season.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fifth in the series’ point standings, followed by Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC, Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Frank Wilson of Harold, FL, Mark Rosner of Maryville, TN, and Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS.

McDuffie, Boyd, McRee, Murphy, Boland and Rodney Wing of Meridian, MS will be donating their time and talent to give fans an opportunity to earn a ride at race speed around Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series “Ride For Life” two-seat dirt late model race car to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Race fans will have the opportunity to bid for a ride with one of the six drivers during an auction at intermission on Saturday night, and they can also purchase tickets for chances to win a ride through a special drawing. All of the proceeds from the auction and the ticket sales will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will compete in Qualifying and Heat Races to set the front part of the field for the 6th Annual Coca-Cola Zero 75. On Saturday night, the back half of the 24-car starting field will be set by the B-Main races to be followed by the $5,000-to-win Coca-Cola Zero 75, Round 12 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season.

On Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park the pit gate will open at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS pre-race registration and technical inspection from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Drivers Meeting will be at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. On Saturday, the pit gate will open at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS check in from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.
