The “Scottsburg Express” Charges to Stars & Stripes 40 Win at Richmond Raceway!

RICHMOND, KY (September 3, 2011)-The STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League and STARS Volunteer Racing Series collided at Joey and Tiffany Tackett’s Richmond Raceway for the first and only time during the 2011 season. Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN survived an eventful night of racing to score his first feature win at Richmond Raceway under the Tackett promotion.

The event would start single-file after three aborted starts due to accidents. Volunteer Racing Series point’s leader Ross White of Knoxville, TN grabbed the initial race lead with Mike Jewell and Tyrel Todd in hot pursuit. Jewell worked passed White for the lead on lap five and by lap ten Jewell and Todd had settled into a nice battle for the race lead. Todd took over the top spot on lap 11 just before another caution waved to slow the action. Back underway, Todd and Jewell continued to battle side-by-side for the lead; with Jewell securing the top spot once again as the field saw the halfway signal. Jewell survived four more caution periods in the final half of the 40-lap main event to score the $3,000 payday aboard his Southern Indiana Rock Drilling, MPC Motorsports, Morgan Foods, Rick Julian Towing sponsored #9 MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a Cornett Racing Engine. Todd finished second while Aaron Hatton recovered from a spin on the first attempted start of the event to race his way from the rear of the field to finish third. Jason Barrett and Timmy Yeager completed the top five.

Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY led all 20 laps of the $800 to win Open Wheel Modified feature for his third victory this season at Richmond Raceway. Trent Green, Bartley Grant, Gary Ward, and Chris Johnson completed the top five.

The “Estill Rocket” Ricky Brandenburg of Irvine, KY clinched his first feature win this season in the Sportsman over Jeremy Howard and Eddie Stewart. Rookie driver Chance Roberson of Lexington, KY earned an impressive fourth place while Anthony Standifer rounded out the top five.

Glen Hounshell, Sr. of Berea, KY rolled to another Road Hog feature victory. John Mandigo finished second, Paul Osborne third, Wayne Duvall fourth, and Shawn Grimes fifth.

John Puckett of Irvine, KY scored his first event Four Cylinder feature win over track championship point’s leader Nathaniel Harrison. Jayson Henderson finished third while Colton Thornsburg and Jerry Jolly completed the top five.
