Divisions and Car Rules Specified for “The Ultimate” in October at Hesston!
(Mars, PA) “The Ultimate” is the traditional UFo season finale and in 2011 will take place at the Hesston Speedway on October 21-22. This year’s edition will be a 2-day event in the true spirit of the Challenger Raceway, where the race was launched. Like Challenger, this will be a major Super Late Model event with regional championships for Semi-Lates, B-Cadets, Hobby-Modified and Roadrunners. The track has released the rules for all classes, which will allows a high majority of cars from the area to be eligible and competitive in the various divisions.
Over $65,000 of prize money will be offered, making it the biggest event ever in Hesston’s 50-year history. Super Late Models will compete for a total of $10,000 to win with a feature event each night. Semi-Lates will race for $2,000 and B-Cadets will race for $1,200 based on a 2 day show. The Hobby-Modified feature winner will receive $700 with the Roadrunner winner receiving $400.
Super Late Models will compete under the UFo rules set and format both nights. Open aluminum block motors must weight 2,250 and can run an 8” spoiler. Steel block motors will have a minimum weight of 2,200 and will also use and 8” spoiler. Spec motors will have a 2,200 weight limit and can utilize a 12” spoiler and a nose spillboard. The new GM CT525 motor will have a 2,150 weight limit and can use a 14” long spoiler with 12” maximum vertical height, along with the nose spillboard.
Semi-Lates will be a combination of limited 358, steel block and crate motor cars. Challenger generated a whopping car count of 79 cars in 2007 using this type of rules set. Open steel block motors must weight 2,500 and will use an 8” spoiler. Limited 358 c.i. motors will weight 2,400 and also will run an 8” spoiler. 604 crate motor cars will have a 2,350 weight limit and may utilize a 12” spoiler and a nose spillboard. 602 crate motors will also be able to use a 12” spoiler and the nose spillboard with a 2,200 weight limit.
B-Cadets will use multi-tier weight limits to allow street stock and pro-stock competitors of the different tracks in the region to race together. Motor, transmission and suspension items will determine the category of a car. Cars falling into the open category will weight 3,200 pounds. Standard cars will weigh 3,050. 360 spec motor cars meeting all criteria will weigh 2,900 and 602 crate motor cars will have a 2,750 weight limit. No spoilers will be permitted except cars running a 2-barrel carburetor and/or 8” tires may use an 8” spoiler. Challenger’s all-time high car count of 62 B-Cadets was achieved in 2008.
The Hobby-Modified class will mix cars from the pure stock, charger and hobby classes of the area. Motor and suspension variances will classify the cars in this division. Standard cars will have a 3,450 weight limit with stock cars weight 3,300.
The Roadrunner division will use the Hesston 4-cylinder factory stock rules, which are similar to surrounding track rules for this class. Full rules for each class may now be obtained at the event website located at http://www.hesstonspeedway.com, the clicking “The Ultimate” button.
A few modifications will be made to the schedule of events from the final event at Challenger due to differences in the pit area at Hesston. A split Super Late Model program with 2 separate programs will be run and the format that made the event famous will stay in tact.
“Mega-Blitz Mach1” will start off the weekend on Friday night, October 21 with a $2,000 to win, Super Late Model complete, non-point program with a 30-lap feature event. The Semi-Lates (limited/steel block/crate late models) and Cadets (street/pro-stocks) will race in qualifying heat races. A full racing program fro the Roadrunner (front wheel driver 4-cylinders) with a championship feature will take place on Friday.
“The Ultimate” on Saturday night, October 22 will a 61-lap championship finale to the UFo season paying $8,000 to the winner. The Semi-Lates will race for $2,000 in a 44-lap championship while the Cadets will race for $1,200 in a 33-lap championship. The Hobby-Modified class (pure stock/charger) will run in a full championship program on Saturday. In case of a rain out on Friday, and alternative 1-day program will be run for the Semi-Lates paying $1,400 to win and the Cadets paying $850 to win. The alternative program will only require teams to purchase 1 day pit passes.
The lap count on the Super Late Models is significant in 2 ways. The 61 lap feature is representative of 1961, the year Hesston opened and the 91 total feature laps is a reference to the year Challenger opened, 1991.
The UFo Race Championship is an event marketing alliance among independent supertracks in the PA-WV-MD region. Participating speedways presents their own championship Super Late Model events under the UFo banner throughout the season using common tech and procedure rules with a year-end, group funded, point bonus for the top finishing drivers on the tour. Eligible tracks are within the 3 hour travel distance of the central point of Washington, PA.
