Carolina Clash heading to Volunteer Speedway for Round 2 of the Tennessee Vs Carolina Brawl

By: Clash pr

The stars of the Carolina Clash will make their second visit of the season to Volunteer Speedway for a $5,000 to win Super Late Model race. The race will be 60 laps to give the drivers more exposure to the track and the fans even more high paced racing action. This will be the second leg of the Tennessee vs. Carolina Brawl. The winner will walk away with a wrestling style championship belt. After round 1, Austin Dillon took the Tennessee vs. Carolina belt home to the Carolina’s.

The last visit the Clash made to Volunteer Speedway was the first time in Clash Series history the Series had made the trip to Bulls Gap. For many of the Clash drivers the trip was a first for them to race on the high banks of the Bulls Gap racetrack. Many of the drivers are excited to make the second visit to the track and have had time to figure out how to make it around the super speedway.

The last visit back in June, Austin Dillon bested the field by setting fast time of 12.413 to take the pole starting spot and lead 59 of the 60 laps to take the victory. Chris Ferguson set 2nd fastest time and looked to have Dillon in his sites before having a flat tire. Ferguson had taken the lead from Dillon on lap 4 but Dillon moved back around Ferguson on the next circuit. Vic Hill started 11th on the grid and raced to a 2nd place finish. Johnny Pursley and Ross Bailes qualified in the top ten with Pursley taking 3rd and Bailes holding on to take 4th. Mike Gault finished in 5th after having a flat and having to restart in the rear earlier in the event. Ferguson made a charge back to the front and moved back in the top ten before having another flat tire that put him out of contentions for the win. Jeff Smith and Scott Autry both made a hard charge to the top spot but both drivers fell out with mechanical issues.

In the JE Piston Roush/Yates Chase for the Championship, Luke Roffers sits atop the chase with a25 point advantage over 2010 Carolina Clash Points Champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin. Kenny Compton Jr. is in third place 25 points behind Rambo. 2009 Carolina Clash Champion, Jeff Smith holds 4th place just one point ahead of Dustin Mitchell. Scott Autry is in 6th place just 7 points behind 5th place Mitchell and David Taylor is only 7 points behind Autry. 2011 ROY contender Chad Paxton is in 8th place 3 points back from Taylor. Mike Gault is in 9th with only one point separating him and Paxton. Tim Allen is 3 points back in 10th. Craig Shuffield, Travis Yow and Jay Sessoms round out the top thirteen drivers that have made it in the JE Pistons Roush/Yates Chase for the Championship. With the points battle this close it is sure to be a battle rumble this coming weekend for the Chase contenders.

Chad Paxton currently leads the Klotz Lubricants Rookie of the Year standings. In the ROY points battle Chad Paxton holds a 153 point lead over Travis Yow. In the last visit to Volunteer Speedway Chad started 21st and finished 7th to earn the Safety Kleen Hard Charger of the race.
