Newbie HOFamer Guss Jr Deery Winner

New Dirt Hall of Fame inductee Ray Guss Jr captured the Deery Summer Series event at the Davenport Speedway Sunday evening. The historic half mile came back to life after a 3 year hiatus. Guss avoided front runners Colby Springsteen and Denny Eckrich as the two tangled out of turn 4 about midway through the race. Guss was never challenged after that.

I guess the fans like the half-mile...what a crowd! The last time I saw that big of a crowd at Davenport was for the Hav-A-Tampa. Not quite as much action as the 1/4-mile but not bad. Typical Ray Guss, always in the right place at the right time. The last race on the half was for the WDRL in April of 2009, won by Chad Simpson.
