thinking about switching to a 604 i have seen a bunch of hendren motors and jody p motors are they that much different than one from gm and if so how much

from what i have been told, that when you send off you motor to ones of these places, or buy one right from them, they are "legal" motors that have just had the tolerances tightened up on them to make them produce more power and be more efficient. i guess they do what needs to be done to take it to the top of the power limit for the 604 without making it "illegal"

can anyone else confirm this?

There is a little more power from the rebuilt motors. The bestest advantage is goin from a assembly line motor (straight from GM) to more of a race motor since the builder is doing it all himself. But FYI I would be careful buying a Jody P motor to run Nesmith last I heard he lost his certification this year for an illegal motor (unless something has changed). Do you need a rebuilt motor? probably not I myself and plenty of others have won with both GM motors and rebuilt motors

Hendren 604, 600 laps since fresh. Comes complete with Stewart stage 3 water pump, pulleys, MSD distributor, wires, Willy's E-85 carb, Beyea Steel headers.
$5000. Getting a big motor, need space in the shop.

i had mine done i think most power gain is from the dyno tune mine made 442 hp 443 tq good card and headers and gas we run gt260 sunoco pro power in WV 304-541-9968
