Booper Bare and the Sprouse/Cromer Motorsports Team record (2) top ten finishes with the Steel Block Bandits and Tighten up Points Battle with 2 Races Remaining.

After Several weeks off, the Steel Block Bandits were back in action this past weekend with a Virginia double header. Booper and the Merritt Sprouse/Chris Cromer owned team rolled into Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, VA on Friday night knowing it was a make or break weekend for the team with its quest of the Steel Block Bandit championship. Trailing point leader Walker Arthur by 34 points with 4 races left the team knew that they had to be on top of their game. Booper after finishing second in his competitive heat race fought a very ill handling car to finish 7th one spot behind Walker in the 40 lap feature.

The team headed back to Booper’s Rockbridge Bath, VA race shop to completely go over the car from top to bottom and try to figure out where the problem lied. After working all morning and most of the afternoon on the potent #83 the team loaded up for the short tow to Natural Bridge Speedway hoping for a better outcome. Booper battled hard with young upstart Tanner Kerr to win his heat race giving him a 3rd starting spot for the 40 lap feature. On a track that was tough to pass on, Booper drove a smooth, steady race bringing the car home with a fine second place finish. That coupled with Walker’s 11th place finished has tightened the point lead down to just 8 points with 2 races left. With The Steel Block Bandits off until October 14th, the team has decided to take off this coming weekend and prepare some equipment for the Winchester 200 which will take place on September 22nd and 23rd.

“It was kind of an up and down weekend that ended up pretty well for us” said Booper Monday from his race shop. “The car acted and handled terribly on Friday, so we took it back to the shop and went over everything. We found a problem that we were unaware of and the car was much better on Saturday. Merritt, Chris and these guys work so hard and I cannot thank them enough” added Bare.

“It’s fun racing Walker(Arthur) for this championship, he and I have been friends for a long time and Cecil(Arthur) has been a big supporter of Booper Bare Racing for many years” said the likable veteran. “We are going to go into the last 2 races as we have all season. We are going to try to win the race and let the points fall where they do. Whatever happens will happen” added Booper.

Look for some exciting news from the team in the near future regarding the 2012 season.
