UFo Race Championship

“The Ultimate” will take place this year at the Hesston Speedway on October 21-22. UFo Super Late Models will compete for a total of $10,000 to win with the Semi-Lates (limited/steel block/crate late models), B-Cadets (street/pro-stock), Hobby-Modifieds (pure stock/charger/hobby) and Roadrunners (stock fwd 4-cylinders) competing for major payoffs in the “Challenger Super Championships.” “The Ultimate” at Hesston will continue the tradition of the fall that was launched at the Challenger Raceway.

“Mega-Blitz Mach1” will start off with a $2,000 to win, Super Late Model complete, non-point program with a 30-lap feature event. The Semi-Lates and B-Cadets will race in qualifying heat races. A full racing program fro the Roadrunner with a championship feature will take place on Friday.

“The Ultimate” in 2011 is scheduled to be a 61-lap championship finale to the UFo season paying $8,000 to the winner. The Semi-Lates will race for $2,000 in a 44-lap championship while the Cadets will race for $1,200 in a 33-lap championship. The Hobby-Modified class will run in a full championship program on Saturday. In case of a rain out on Friday, and alternative 1-day program will be run for the Semi-Lates paying $1,400 to win and the Cadets paying $850 to win.

Former winners of “The Ultimate” include Jason Covert of Lock Haven, PA in 2010, Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH in 2009, Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI in 2008 and Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL in 2007. The average starting position of the winner is 14th with Hartman winning from 20th, Drake from 15th, Mars from 12th and Covert from 10th.

The elements that made “The Ultimate” the best fall event in the region when it was at Challenger will still be in tact. The lap count on the Super Late Models is significant in 2 ways. The 61 lap feature is representative of 1961, the year Hesston opened and the 91 total feature laps is a reference to the year Challenger opened, 1991. Hesston Speedway will offer free camping for this event.

Like Challenger, this will be an event where a high majority of the racers in the region in the competing divisions can race. Super Late Models will run under UFo rules. Semi-Lates, B-Cadets and Hobby-Modifieds will compete under multi-tier rules that give weight and spoiler variances to cars with different equipment to make virtually all cars in the region in those divisions legal and competitive. Roadrunners will run under the Hesston rules, which match most surrounding speedways.

The UFo Race Championship is an event marketing alliance among independent supertracks in the PA-WV-MD region. Participating speedways presents their own championship Super Late Model events under the UFo banner throughout the season using common tech and procedure rules with a year-end, group funded, point bonus for the top finishing drivers on the tour. Eligible tracks are within the 3 hour travel distance of the central point of Washington, PA.
