Building a 2.5 chevy motor to run in a S-10. I need to build a motor that will spank some of the Fords out there running a 2.3. We are running maybe a 4.10 grear on a .349 flat track. Need some help on what parts to get.. thank you.

First thing you need to invest in is a good block. KRP racing products has an aftermarket block. The chevy 2.5's main line isn't very stout and when you try to build power you will pull the mains out of the block. Might not happen the first night but will soon there after.

find a 3.0 mercury marine engine, then you got something that looks like a 2.5 but will spank the fords all day. and will have a bullet proof bottom end.

You can use the same rods as the 350 so lots of good choices. Also can use big block chevy valves and roller rockers with screw in studs. No problem building a really good top end. Can't do anything about the weak bottom end though. I ran a 2.5 in my S10 for 4 years and blew 5 motors, most when the crank broke. The last one had strapped mains to go with the balanced rotating assy. The push rod Chevy just can't live if you expect it to turn the RPMs that the Fords do. Go ahead and put a Ford in your S10, a little work but not too bad.
