Barbara Scores Career High at the UFo/ULMS “Pittsburgher!” Satterlee 1st in “i-Monster!”
(Imperial, PA) Keith Barbara of South Park PA scored a career high by winning “The Pittsburgher” for UFo/ULMS Super Late Models at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway Saturday night. After drawing 31 of 39 cars for the heat races and starting 10th on the feature grid, Barbara took the victory in thrilling style in a race that featured 4 lead changes and position changes on virtually every lap. Barbara collected $7,000 for his efforts in his Forbes Field Garage, RAN Racing Tours, Triangle Benefits Services, JNJ Motorsports Media Mastersbilt.
Brandon Burgoon and Dennis Lunger lead the 32 car field to the green. Burgoon jumped out to the initial lead before a caution slowed the race on the 1st lap. On the restart, 4-time “Pittsbugher” winner Davey Johns grabbed the lead.
Several single car cautions slowed the race between laps 5 and 21, but each time Johnson would pull out to the lead. Friday nights “i-Monster” winner Gregg Satterlee moved into 2nd and Jared Miley moved into 3rd. On lap 40, Satterlee and Miley began to close in on Johnson for a 3-car race for the lead before Miley passed both of the other drivers to take the lead on lap 46.
Miley, using a spec motor car with no weight break and only an 9” spoiler, began to stretch his lead out before a caution on lap 51. On the restart, Miley once again surged to the lead and started to pull away. Barbara had charged from his 10th place starting position to move into 3rd using the low line of the speedway, but Johnson also moved to the low line halting his advance. On lap 54, disaster struck as Miley lost a driveshaft at the start/finish line.
On the restart, Davey Johnson was the new race leader with Barbara in 2nd. Johnson chose the inside line for the total double file restart, putting Barbara on the outside lane. On the restart, the two battled side-by-side with Johson on the inside and Barbara on the outside. Barbara took control on lap 55 and lead the remaining laps to score the huge victory.
Johnson followed in 2nd while 18th starting Alex Ferree charged to 3rd using the extreme outside groove. Satterlee settled for 4th with Burgoon finishing 5th. Lynn Geisler, 17th starting Matt Lux, Michael Norris, John Garvin Jr. and Jim Stephans rounded out the top 10.
