410 Sprint Cars return to SOS on October 1st

WHEELERSBURG, OH-After a one month break, the Southern Ohio Speedway will roar back to life on Saturday, October 1st. For the second time this season, the stars and cars of the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association will take to the speedway. In addition to the OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars, Steel Block Late Models, Bombers, Sport Mods, and an Enduro will also be on the card.

410 Sprint Cars have long been known as the fastest machines on dirt. The cars weigh only 1,300 pounds and can make up to 900 horsepower. On a track the size of SOS, the 410 Sprints reach top speeds of over 130 mph. When the OVSCA last came to town on August 12th, a strong field of 23 Sprint Cars was in attendance as Piketon, Ohio’s Jim Nier took the feature win over rising star Cole Duncan.

A great show is also expected on October 1st in the Steel Block Late Model class. When Steel Block Late Models last ran at SOS on August 12th, a strong field of 28 cars was in attendance with West Union, Ohio’s Joe Arnold taking the feature win. Additional money will be on the line this weekend as the nights 20 lap feature will pay $600 to win and $100 to start.

As the 2011 season starts to wind down, much focus will be on the point’s battles to see who will be the 2011 SOS track champions. The only two weekly classes racing on October 1st will be the Bomber and Sport Mod divisions. In the Bomber division, Frankfurt, Ohio’s Conard Newman has been undefeated, winning every Bomber feature at the track. He holds a 50 point lead over David Dunn. In the Sport Mod division, James Johnson and George Cauldwell are tired for the points lead.

The always entertaining Enduro race will also take to the track on October 1st. Enduro’s give people a way to get into a race car at a very low cost. Enduro cars are basically street cars or trucks with the glass busted out of them. These races are always fun and a favorite among race fans.

General admission prices for the October 1st event are as follows; $12 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16), $2 (ages 7-12) and FREE (ages 6 and under). Adult pit passes are $25. Gates will open at 3:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights action at 6:00 pm. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.
