STARS MDRL Oct. 8th event at Southern OH cancelled, Linville to be honored at DTWC

SOMERSET, KY (September 25, 2011)—Officials with the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League and the Southern Ohio Speedway located in Wheelersburg, Ohio have mutually agreed on cancelling the series finale date, the Southern Classic, scheduled for October 8th.

An agreement was made after a scheduling conflict with an area race track came about, and the series and track didn’t want to run against any other area event that weekend. The track and series tried to come up with a suitable make-up date but none was found for the remainder of the season.

Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, Kentucky has been named the Inaugural Series Champion. Linville captured one win during the 2011 season during the eight race schedule which came on Saturday July 2nd at the Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, KY during the Roger Breeding Memorial event. Linville, after dropping one race, beat runner-up Michael Chilton by just 100 points, even after Chilton dropped his lowest recorded finish.

Linville along with the STARS Volunteer Racing Series Champion Eric Jacobsen of Santa Cruz, California will have mention and honor during the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Dirt Track World Championship on October 14-15 at the KC Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio. For Linville’s efforts for the Championship, he will receive a guaranteed starting spot in the 100-lapper paying $50,000 to win that weekend.

In the eight races held during the season, the series saw eight different winners. Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY picked up the Inaugural Series opener on April 23rd at Burnside, KY which saw 28 entries for the first-ever series event. A total of 138 different competitors raced in a STARS MDRL event which represented Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, California and Michigan.

Terry Tomlison of Somerset, KY has been named the 2011 Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year barely edging out Salt Rock, WV driver Mick Sansom by just 20 markers.

An announcement concerning the STARS tours of MDRL and VRS for the 2012 racing season are forthcoming. Further information on the STARS MDRL and STARS VRS can be obtained by calling the series office at (606) 219-1723 or visit www.racevrs.com .
