Elliott Ride the “Waikiki Wave” to Win!

(Cumberland, MD) Ricky Elliott of Seaford Delaware claimed a $2,000 victory by winning the “Waikiki Wave” tune-up feature for the UFo “Big Kahuna” at The Rock Speedway Friday night. After completion of Friday’s event, rain storms and cold temperatures moved into the regional forcing cancellation of the “Big Kahuna” for 2011.

Dylan Yoder and Chuck Clise lined up on the front row of the 31-lap “Waikiki Wave” feature. Yoder jumped out to the lead with Elliott soon moving into 2nd. The 1st caution of the race appeared when Mason Ziegler clipped a marker tire and spun in turn 4.

Contact on the first attempt to restart the race resulted in UFo point leader Devin Friese spinning. On the 2nd attempt to restart the race, Yoder fired first for the double file restart, but Elliott won the drag race down the front straight away. Elliott began to open up a slight lead while Jeff Rine had moved into 3rd. Yoder and Rine began to close in on Elliott as they raced into heavy lapped traffic.

The 3rd and final caution of the race appeared on lap 17 when Brian Booze slowed on the track. On the restart, Rine charged into 2nd and tried to chase down Elliott, but Elliott crossed the finish line first for the $2,000 win. Rine, Yoder, Clise, and Keith Barbara followed. Chad McClellan, Jim Yoder, Nick (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son, Jared Miley and Matt Parks rounded out the top 10.

Heat wins for the 29-car field went to Rine, Miley and McClellan. Jerry Bard won the consolation race.
