Covert Rockets from 10th to Win Amazing “Night Flight 2 Mars” at Roaring Knob!
(Markleysburg, PA) 10 is proving to be Jason Covert’s prime starting position. Covert captured his 3rd all-time UFo Race Championship win and $2,000 at the “Night Flight 2 Mars” at Roaring Knob Friday Night, from 10th on the grid. All 3 of Covert’s UFo victories have come after staring 10th on the grid. The “Night Flight” was a tune-up feature to Saturday’s $5,000 to win UFo “ROAR.”
UFo point leader Devin Friese and Chuck Clise lined up on the front row of the 35-lap feature after the top 12 starting positions were redrawn. Clise jumped out to a lead at the drop of the green, running on the cushion on the top of the track. A 6-car race soon developed in the front, with 4th starting Jared Miley soon in hot pursuit of Clise. Miley and was side-by-side with Clise for the lead when the race’s 1st caution appeared for Chuck Harper slowing on the track. Covert had already advance to 5th from his 10th place starting position.
When the race restarted, Miley immediately went back under Clise and the two raced for the lead. Another caution appeared on lap 11 when Friese spun in turn 3 and collected Danny Mitchell. Both cars left the race. After the double file restart, Clise and Miley resumed their race for the lead. Another caution on lap 14 appeared when Jeremy Miller slowed, On the restart the Clise-Miley battle continued until Miley took control on lap 15.
Covert soon moved into 2nd and tried to hunt down Miley on the lightning-fast 3/8 mile. A caution for a single car spin on lap 20 set up an exciting double file restart with Miley choosing the inside lane and Covert on the oustside. At the green, Miley fired 1st, but Covert won the drag race down the front straight and took control of the race.
During the next 10 laps, Miley began to close in on Covert to try to retake the lead with 16th starting Gregg Satterlee advancing to 3rd. A pair cautions appeared on lap 30, with Covert jumping back into the lead on both double file restarts with Miley.
