County Line Raceway, Elm City NC

November 5th

Festivities started early out at County Line Raceway for the 3rd Annual Race For The Kids benefiting Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Big Dawg's own Kat was out doing a live remote from the track, talking to drivers, staff and fans, while Sammy Barclay from Victory Junction Gang Camp was also set up with information detailing everything about Victory Junction Gang Camp. Bobby Brantley & Big Juicy from Lizard Lick Towing was on hand signing autographs and hanging out with the fans. The cool temps and brisk winds didn't deter folks from coming out, and from the looks of excitement on their faces, everyone was excited about the upcoming feature events.

Prior to the qualifying sessions for the Rapid Red Open Wheel Modifieds, Bobby Brantley licked County Line Raceway's own Steve Summerlin! After talking with The Big Dawg's Angie Owens, County Line's James Upchurch & Tyler Skinner, Bobby acquired Steve's keys and as fans watched and JR Knotts followed, Bobby drove Steve's truck around the racetrack! Written on the windows in bright white paint was "Got Licked ". Priceless was the word as Steve gazed out the window, not even realizing it was his own truck until Bobby stopped in front of the grandstands. Asthon Kutcher's Punk'd had nothing on County Lines Version of Getting Licked!

After 4 heats and 2 consi's, the Rapid Red Open Wheel Modified 24 car field was set with the pink and white 9 Federated Auto Parts ride of Ken Schrader on the pole with the 30 of Joe Meadows on the outside, this 30 lap $4200 to win feature was ready to go. Lap 1 in the books and Ken Schrader was out front when the caution came out for Jeffery Tyndall. Back green with Schrader still out front, Hoffman a car length back when the yellow would fly again for Billy Wilson who spun in 4. Glenn Upchurch threw the green flag over Ken Schrader who quickly stretched his lead out to at least 6 car lengths when the yellow would fly yet again on lap 6 for Craig Robinson who spun in turn 2. This was a quick yellow, so we were back green with Schrader fending off his first real challenge by Nick Hoffman. That challenge would fail as Hoffman would settle back into 2nd spot. Riding in 3rd, Bart Hartman, Chris Parker and Hank Edwards in the top 5. Another caution would come out for Billy Wilson in turn 4 on lap 11. Wilson would utilize the new hot pit road on the front stretch while the field lined p to go back green. Schrader held onto his lead over Hoffman when the caution came out again for Craig Roberson, but as we went green we were under caution again for a spin in turn 4 by 4th place Chris Parker. Contact was made between Parker & Hank Edwards, resulting in Parker cutting a tire and being towed to the pits. Back green and Schrader was still out front with about 2 cars separating him from Hoffman. Kyle Strickler was on the move as he passed Hartman for 3rd. A 3 car spin in turn 4 would bring out the caution yet again. Track officials quickly removed the debris from turn 4 and we were back green with 11 to go. A 5 car pile up on the backstretch would bring us to yet another yellow green flag. Wayne Gray got loose on the backstretch, spinning in front of Vic Vena, Ricky Boahn, Chris Arnold and Greg Brown.Greg Brown was able to continue as the others retreated to the pits. Green again, and Schrader was in the gas quick coming out of 4 to the start/finish line. He was followed closely by Hoffman, Hartman, Strickler and Russell Erwin. With 25 laps complete, Schrader appeared to have his pink #9 Federated Auto Parts open wheel modified on cruise control as he wheeled it under the checkered flag. Schrader was followed by Nick Hoffman and Joe Meadows. Ken brought home the $4200 win, along with the $200 pole award and the 1/2 way leader award bringing his winnings to $4500! Congratulations Ken on your win & we hope to see you back in the future!

Thundering in turn 4, the J&M Chevrolet Late Models lined up for their 40 lap feature with Shaun Harrell on the pole with Travis Yow on the outside. Lap 1 would see them drag race down the front stretch into turn 1, only to see the caution come out for Cy Nelms, who spun in the top of turn 1. Back green with a complete restart, we would see Travis Yow jump out in front of Harrell as they roared out of turn 2. Another caution would come out for a spin in 2 by the 11Jr of Buddy Isles, Jr. Several cars would scatter to avoid, with Skeeter Liles popping the wall ever so slightly. All cars would continue as we were quickly back green. Another quick yellow would fly for the 95 of Mitch Miller who spun in turn 4, but again, Glenn Upchurch quickly threw the green flag. Travis Yow continues to lead Shaun Harrell, Dustin Mitchell, Travis Hair and Spencer Liggon. Skeeter Liles would spin in 4 bringing out another caution flag to slow the field. Green again and Yow is still out front of Harrell by about 5 car lengths, Dustin Mitchell slowly started chomping away at the real estate that Harrell owned while Travis Hair & Spencer Liggon rounded out the top 5. Derrick Francis would bring out the caution on lap 9. With severe damage, Derrick was taken to the pits on the rollback. Green again and Travis Yow quickly pulled away from Harrell, while Dustin Mitchell again tried to get around Harrell to no avail. Travis Hair continued to ride in 4th spot while Christian Joyner took over 5th spot from Spencer Liggon. Lap 15 and Yow was already catching lap traffic. Roger Lucas would bring out the caution on the backstretch with a spin, but was back under his own power and we were quickly back under green. As quickly as we went green, we were immediately under caution for the 71 of Davis Lipscombe, who got high out of turn 2 and hit the backstretch wall. Back green after a quick response by the County Line Towing service, and Travis Hair would run up the track a little bit opening the door for Christian Joyner to move into the top 4. Caution again for a slow car, Roger Lucas who would go into the pits, and we would also see the 7th place car of Spencer Liggon retreat to the pits. Dustin Mitchell, running 3rd, would go into the inside pit area while his crew attended to the rear of the car with a possible broken rear end. Green with Travis Yow still out front with Harrell in 2nd, Travis Hair, who passed Christian Joyner, and Ray Tucker. Joyner slowed in turn 4 bringing out the caution but we would quickly go green with 15 to go. Yow would again stretch out a good lead over Harrell, while Travis Hair started working on his back bumper. Ray Tucker moved up into the 4th spot followed by Christian Thomas who rounded out the top 5. With 5 to go, Travis Yow was almost in a different zip code as he sailed around the track. Shaun Harrell was still being chased by Travis Hair, but would put some distance on the 91. Steve Mendenhall would get around Christian Thomas for 5th spot. Travis Yow would bring home the win followed by Shaun Harrell, Travis Hair, Ray Tucker & Steve Mendenhall.
