Hesston Speedway Announces 2012 Super Late Model Dates

(Hesston, PA) With a successful season just completed, the Hesston Speedway is racing forward into the 2012 season. In 2011, Hesston elevated its profile and established itself as a major venue for key Super Late Model special events in the region. The 2012 schedule will be similar to this year’s, with approximately 12 race dates including 5 Super Late Model major events. Tentative dates have been released for these Super Late Model races next season at “Motor Mountain.”

The track will celebrate its 51st anniversary in 2012 with 3 of the Super Late Model events paying $5,100 to win. With Hesston’s Central location, the track has become the perfect venue to attract the best drivers in the region. Hesston has become a late model mecca as all of Hesston’s Super Late Model championships also include a full racing program for the Late Model Sportsman class. These double late model division championship programs are a bonanza of racing for late model fans, with twice the high-power action.

“Mega-Blitz Mach 3” on Sunday, May 27 will be the initial Super Late Model event next year. This race will be a triple blast of late model racing as it will feature twin Super Late Model championship features as well as a championship feature for the track’s Late Model Sportsman class. “Mega-Blitz Mach 3” is scheduled to pay $5,100 total to win for the Super Late Models. In 2011, Jeremy Miller of Littlestown, PA and Ron Delano, Jr. of Stoystown, PA split the wins at this event in the Super Late Models over a 45-car field. Track champion Rance Garlock of Three Springs, PA captured the win in the Late Model Sportsman.

With the 4th of July holiday moving into midweek in 2012, Hesston will present “Revolution 2012” as a special mid-week race on Tuesday, July 3. The Super Late Models will race again for $5,100 in a 55 lap championship feature on July 3. The “Sonny and Peggy Eriksen Grand Prix” will have a tentative date of Saturday, August 4. The “Eriksen Grand Prix will include a 44-lap feature paying $4,200 to win.

“Super Thunder by the Lake” is scheduled for Sunday, September 2 and will feature the thrilling twin feature program for the Super Late Models paying $5,100 total to win. Jeff Rine of Danville, PA was the winner of the “Thunder” event at Hesston in 2010, coming out on top of a torrid battle for the win with Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, PA. Khi Swanger of Mill Creek, PA was the Late Model Sportsman feature winner.

“The Ultimate” and “Challenger Super Championships” will return to Hesston once again on Friday and Saturday, October 12 and 13. With the Dirt Track World Championship in Ohio taking place on October 19-20 in 2012, “The Ultimate” moves back to the traditional weekend that the race took place at the Challenger Raceway. Hesston demonstrated the capabilities of the facility in a big way at “The Ultimate” in 2011, with an outstanding track surface, excellent racing action and an efficiently managed, on-time racing program. The event received rave reviews from fans and race teams in attendance and has established the groundwork for a mega-fall event at Hesston.

“The Ultimate” is set to be the exciting 2012 finale for the Super Late Models, Semi-Lates, B-Cadets, Hobby-Modifieds and Roadrunner 4-cylinders in the region. Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD was “The Ultimate” Super Late Model champion in 2011, winning the race with an exciting late-race pass of Jason Covert of York Haven, PA. Tim Smith, Jr. of Long Hollow, PA was the winner of the Semi-Late Super Championship. Joe Kot of Dubois, PA came out the winner of the ultra-competitive B-Cadet Super Championship, with Justin Queen of Irvona, PA winning the Hobby-Modified Super Championship.

“Motor Mountain” is located in the scenic Raystown Lake and mountain country of central PA and provides a wonderful opportunity for race fans and race teams to make a complete weekend getaway when attending the racing events at Hesston. Promoter DR Eriksen has transformed Hesston into a showplace in just two short seasons, with additional improvements on the drawing board. Major expansions have given the track more seating, parking and pit space to accommodate these major events. All fans are provided an excellent view of the action, with grandstand seating and drive-in viewing built high above the racing surface. Hesston welcomes campers and now offers in track-camping on the back straight viewing ramp.

The full 2012 schedule will be released soon with other events including the Late Model Sportsman/Semi-Late, B-Cadet, Hobby-Modified and Roadrunner classes plus 305 Sprints and other special attractions on specified dates.
