Cleveland Speedway presents 23rd Annual Southern Allstars Gobbler on November 19th

CLEVELAND, TN (November 7, 2011)—The rich tradition of the ‘Gobbler’ continues with the 23rd annual running of the East Tennessee classic on Saturday November 19th at Cleveland Speedway.

This event, which will again be sanctioned by the Southern Allstars Racing Series, will pay the winner $5,000 of the 50-lap affair with over $20,000 in Super Late Model prize money up for grabs. This will be the final events of the season for both the SAS group, who will host their 13th and final event, and for the Cleveland Speedway. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, who has been on a roll in late 2011 won the 2010 edition of the Gobbler at the Monty Morrow promoted facility.

This will be the fifth appearance of the season by the Tennessee based Southern Allstars Racing Series to the Cleveland Speedway. Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, GA captured the $10,000 Shamrock 60 event win while debuting a new Capital Race Car back on March 12th and Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA captured the $5,000 event on May 21st during the 34th Annual Coca-Cola/Tennessee Memorial. Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN won the $5,000 event back on July 16th while Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC won $5,000 in the series’ most recent visit back on August 20th during the 21st Annual Jean Johnson Memorial.

In addition to the SAS Late Models, the Steel Head/Crate combined Late Models will compete for $1,500 to win. A $50 entry fee will be charged for this division. The weights for the Steel Head cars are 2350 lbs. while the Crate cars are 2200 lbs. with a 12 inch spoiler or a 12X24 inch left rear spoiler. The Limited’s and Hobby’s will be competing for $400 to the winner with a $20 entry fee. The ‘Stacey McCalister Memorial’ for the Pony Cars will be $500 to win with a $20 entry fee. The tire rule for all local divisions apply consisting of Hoosier 1600/1350/21/55 or an American Racer 56.

Southern Allstars Racing Series rules and procedures will be in effect for the Super Late Models which will see a full program of Practice, Time Trials, Consolation Races and the 50-lap ‘Gobbler’ event. Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN holds a two point lead over Phenix City, AL’s William Thomas heading into Cleveland Speedway. Both Ogle and Thomas are looking for their first-ever Southern Allstars Racing Series Championship.

Ticket prices for the ‘Gobbler’ are as follows: Adult Grandstands $20.00 while Adult Pit Passes are $30.00. The gates will open at 3:00 p.m. on November 19th with the grandstands opening at 4:00 p.m. and the driver’s meeting is slated for 5:00 p.m. Cleveland Speedway is located NE of Chattanooga, TN on I-75 to Exit 20, then 1.3 mile south on US64 bypass, then 0.2 mile NE on US11 (NSR).
