CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour will be at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS this Saturday night for the $5,000-to-win 6th Annual Coca-Cola Zero 75. The first 16 starting spots for the race are filled, but the competition for the 17th through 26th starting spots could very well be worth the price of admission by themselves.

Saturday night’s event is a continuation of what was to have been a two-day show on September 2-3. The qualifying and heat races to set the first 16 spot of the main event starting field were held on September 2, but the B-Main races and 75-lap feature race were rained out by Tropical Storm Lee on September 3 and rescheduled for this Saturday night.

There were 52 entrants vying for the 24 starting spots. With 16 already in the show, that left 36 drivers divided up into a pair of 20-lap B-Main races where the top three finishers in each race would fill in starting spots 17 through 22 along with two series Provisionals to make up the 24 car starting field.

To enhance new entrants for the $5,000-to-win, $300-to-start 6th Annual Coca-Cola Zero 75, NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials have added an event to give new entrants, along with those in the two B-Main races an extra opportunity to race their way in the big show. Two more starting spots for the main event have also been added.

Drivers returning to Whynot Motorsports Park this Saturday will keep the starting spots they earned on September 2 for the main event and the B-Main races provided they check in by 5 p.m. this Saturday afternoon. New competitors that did not compete on September 2 can enter the event and draw for a starting spot in a B-Main behind the already qualified cars.

The top three finishers in each 20-lap B-Main race will fill in starting spots 17 through 22 in the big show and starting positions 23 and 24 will be NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Provisional spots reserved for drivers in the Top 15 of the point standings that fail to make the show through the B-Mains.

B-Main drivers that finish fourth through 12th will have one more opportunity to make the big show in the 18-lap Buddy’s Home Furnishings Dash where the top two finishers will start the Coca-Cola Zero 75 in the 25th and 26th starting spots.

Race fans at Whynot Motorsports Park will be treated this Saturday night to over 130 laps of three and four-wide NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Series action. In addition to the action and excitement just to get to the main event, the big show itself has plenty of drama when it comes to the 2011 $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship.

Going into the Coca-Cola Zero 75, Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC leads two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN by six points at the top of the points chase for the 2011 NeSmith Cup. Both drivers are in the big show after finishing in the top four in their respective heat races on September 2.

Breuer won the fourth heat race on September 2, and has earned the outside second row starting spot for the Coca-Cola Zero 75 this Saturday night. Gentry finished fourth in the third heat race on September 2 and has earned the 15th starting spot for the big show.

Breuer, who is making his first appearance at Whynot Motorsports Park, has the starting position advantage, but Gentry has the experience advantage at Whynot Motorsports Park. Gentry won the first Coca-Cola Zero 75 at Whynot Motorsports Park in 2006. Gentry has one win and four top five finishes in six NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS starts at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Behind Breuer and Gentry, there are still nine drivers battling for the eight remaining Top 10 points fund-paying positions and seven of them are still on the outside looking in. Those seven drivers will have to run the B-main races to either race their way in or hope for one of two Provisional starting spots.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series points chase and is scheduled to start eighth in the first 20-lap B-Main. Turner would be the first driver in line for a Provisional. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fifth in points, is second in line for a Provisional, and starts third in the second 20-lap B-Main.

Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC is sixth in the point standings, is third in line for a provisional, and starts ninth in the first B-main. Mark Tice of Avon, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series points, is fourth in line for a Provisional, and starts 14th in the second B-Main. Tice is trying to alive in the battle for the $5,000 2011 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, who is fourth in the series point standings, leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings with a 104-point lead over Tice. Edge is already in the starting line-up for the Coca-Cola Zero 75 in the 12th position.

If Edge leaves Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night with a 141-point advantage over Tice, he will clinch the 2011 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year title and the $5,000 that goes with it. If Tice fails to qualify for the main event, Edge would have to finish 16th or better in the Coca-Cola 75 to seal the deal. All Edge would have to do is show up at the final two races of the season.

Frank Wilson of Harold, FL is eighth in the series standings, is fifth in line for a Provisional, and starts on the pole in the second B-Main. Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS is ninth in the points, is sixth in line for a Provisional, and starts 13th in the first B-Main. Mark Rosner of Maryville, TN is tenth in points, is seventh in line for a Provisional, and starts 16th in the first B-Main.

Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS is currently 11th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series points chase, 16 points behind Rosner. Stokes is in the show for the Coca-Cola Zero 75 and will start 9th in Saturday night’s big show. If Rosner misses the show, Stokes will move into the tenth spot in the points chase, a position that pays $1,000 at the end of the season.

Chris Cantrell of Chester, SC set fast time honors and won the first heat race on September 2 to earn the pole position for the Coca-Cola Zero 75 in his first visit to Whynot Motorsports Park. Defending race champion Larry Harrod of Plains, GA won the second heat race and will start the big show on Saturday night from the outside of the front row.

Rodney Wing of Meridian, MS won the third heat race and starts to the left side of Breuer in the second row. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL and Mike Boland of Cuba, AL make up the third row.

McRee finished third in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with six wins this season at Whynot Motorsports Park. Boland is second on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Career Wins list with 10 victories. Four of those wins have come at Whynot Motorsports Park including the 2007 and 2008 Coca-Cola Zero 75.

The 2008 and 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS is also in the big show, and will start the Coca-Cola Zero 75 from the 11th starting spot. McDuffie is also the 2011 Whynot Motorsports Park NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion with five of his 13 wins this season.

In addition to the racing action, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series “Ride For Life” two-seat dirt late model race car will be on hand to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will be able to bid for a six-lap ride at race speed around Whynot Motorsports Park in a special auction, and also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a ride in a special drawing.

Drivers Jim McDuffie, Mike Boland, Justin McRee, Randy Boyd, Rodney Wing, and Daniel Bridgeman have donated their time and talent to provide the high-speed thrills for the winning race fans with all of the proceeds from the auction and the raffle ticket sales to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
