I bought a complete Bert setup from a internally balanced 400 sbc and it's going on a 350 externally balanced motor. Do I have to buy the $150 Flexplate or can I use the $15 counter balance from speedway and use the Flexplate I have. Funds are running low until tax time.

Isn't it usually the other way around??? 350's are normally internally balanced and a 400 is externally balanced. The Plates you buy are for running a standard trans and flywheel on an externally balanced 400. They never made a 400 with a standard trans from the factory so there isn't a flywheel made for them. Thats why you have to run the balance plate.

Ok I guess I'm confused? The 400 it was on I was told was balanced at the shop internally so do I need to buy a Flexplate for my350 sbc or am I good to run it.

I believe your good to go... Stock 400's are externally balanced. Usually if you have a race engine built, they balance it internally so you don't need the big harmonic balancer and weighted flywheel that a stock 400 uses. A stock 350 is internally balanced already, so you should be good to go.,...

Is your 350 a one piece rear main seal? If it is then you will more than likely need the external balance plate.

Yeah it's a 2 pc mid 70's block. I will double check to make sure though.

Those balance plates wont work, they screw up the way the coupler and flywheel sit on the crank.good for stock flexplate w a torque converter....

Yes, GM did make a 168 tooth stick flywheel for manual trans trucks.

We used to buy old school busses at the auction for $50-100 that were manual and 400ci motors for the engines and scrap the rest for 50-75 bucks!

Funny you said that, the short busses ALWAYS sold for more than triple the full sized price because people were converting them to campers and tow trucks for their race cars. There were about 8 people that used them at one track we raced at to tow their cars and keep the tools and stuff in.
