View Full Version : GRT Race Cars Wins 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS And WRS Chassis Championship

CARTERSVILLE, GA – GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR has won both the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring and Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge. It the first Chassis Manufacturers title for GRT Race Cars in the Touring Series, and the fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Championship.

GRT Race Cars had three wins and two fast time awards in 2011 on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour totaling 151 points. GRT Race Cars had 57 wins this season in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition.

Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN took the win and Fast Time honors on April 2 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN driving the Dale’s Auto Sales GRT, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS in the TJC Mortgage GRT was the winner on October 7 at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Ashley Newman of Mercer, TN won at Greenville Speedway on November 5 in the 45 Race Shop GRT and Stokes was the Fast Qualifier.

In the Top 10 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour point standings, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS finished fifth in the Billy Riels Racing GRT and will received a new chassis from GRT Race Cars. Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS finished ninth in the Autozone GRT and Stokes took the tenth spot.

In 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition, GRT Race Cars had 29 wins in the West Region, and 28 wins in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region leading to the fourth Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Championship for GRT to go with their 2006, 2007, and 2008 titles.

In the West Region, Travis Ashley of Batesville, AR had 11 wins, Roger Witt of Batesville, AR had eight wins, Bill Frye of Greenbrier, AR and Stokes each had two wins, and single GRT victories were turned in by Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS, Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS, Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS, Tim Dees of Meridian, MS, Neil Lee of Flowood, MS, and Dallas Everett of Beebe, AR.

Todd Darda of LaGrange, GA led the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region win total for GRT Race Cars with nine victories. Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL had seven wins, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL turned in five wins, and Craig Scott of Newnan, GA had three wins. Single OMG East Region wins were turned in by Doug Stevens of Griffin, GA, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Patrick Duggan of Lenoir City, TN, and Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA.

Darda was the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Championship Runner-Up, Gauldin finished third in the OMG East Region points chase, and Maher rounded out the Top 10. Murphy finished ninth in the West Region point standings, and Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS rounded out the Top 10 in the West Region in his GRT.

GRT Race Cars will pick up its first NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Championship Trophy and its fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Championship Trophy at the series Annual Awards Banquet next month.

Also competing in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Chassis Manufacturers Challenge were the 2010 Touring and 2009 and 2010 Weekly Racing Series Chassis Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL, the 2008 and 2009 Touring Chassis Champ Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN, Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.

Rocket Chassis finished second in the Touring Chassis points with three wins and 146 points, Trak-Star Race Cars took the third spot with one win and three fast time awards for a total of 134 points, Warrior Race Cars was fourth with two wins and one fast time award for 129 points, Stinger Race Cars took the fifth spot with 80 points, and TNT Race Cars finished sixth with 62.

The top finishing Chassis Manufacturer earned ten points at each NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event in 2011, with a one-point spread on through the Chassis field. One bonus point was awarded for each win and each fast time award.

Trak-Star Race Cars was the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Championship Runner-Up with 52 wins, Rocket Chassis was third with 18 wins, Warrior Race Cars was fourth with one win, while TNT Race Cars and Stinger Race Cars rounded out the point standings.
