CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has signed 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN for the 2012 season. The two East Tennessee dirt tracks have agreed to work together next season in scheduling, rules, and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the Crate Late Model Division.

The agreement was made on Saturday during a meeting among 411 Motor Speedway officials, Smoky Mountain Speedway officials, the Crate Late Model drivers at both tracks, and NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Competition Director Tim Sims.

The drivers were enthusiastic about the technical support and public relations the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series offers them, and competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point fund that will pay $10,000 to the 2012 Champion. Drivers at both tracks will compete against drivers at other series tracks across the country through a points system.

“We felt like the future growth of the Crate Late Model Division at 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway needed consistent guidelines and rules to attract competitors from both the local area and outside the local area,” 411 Motor Speedway Owner/Promoter Mitch McCarter said. “The officials and the competitors were in agreement that the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series would give us a level playing field and the knowledge that to race under this sanction, that everyone’s stuff better be right.”

In addition to the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National point fund, drivers at 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway will compete for a combined track point fund. The two tracks will work together in scheduling. 411 Motor Speedway will operate on Saturday nights in 2012, but will take the night off when Smoky Mountain Speedway schedules a Saturday night event.

“With 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway working together in 2012, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series was a good fit,” McCarter said. “Many of the Crate Late Model competitors in the area made an investment to compete over the past two seasons at Smoky Mountain Speedway under the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series sanction.”

Smoky Mountain Speedway will operate on a limited schedule in 2012, and when they have a Saturday night schedule, 411 Motor Speedway will run on another night during the week. 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway are still working out the details of their 2012 schedules.

“We think this is going to be a good thing for the Crate Late Model drivers at Smoky Mountain Speedway and 411 Motor Speedway,” Smoky Mountain Speedway Track Manager Casey Moses said. “We asked the drivers what they wanted, and they said they wanted the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanction because they were the best at monitoring the rules.”

One date set on the 2011 411 Motor Speedway schedule will be a $2,500-to-win 50-lap NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event on Saturday night, June 2. McCarter’s son Pierce McCarter of Sevierville, TN also announced at the meeting that he will run for the 2012 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour.

“I took my two sons Pierce and Mack down to race in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring race at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL earlier this month, and we really enjoyed it,” McCarter said. “It was a great atmosphere among the competitors, and the series puts on a good professional show. I think our fans at 411 Motor Speedway will really enjoy the Touring Series when it comes to 411 Motor Speedway on June 2.”

According to Moses, Smoky Mountain Speedway officials are still putting the finishing touches on their 2012 schedule of events, and are looking to find a date for a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event this upcoming season.

“The past NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events that have been held in the past at Smoky Mountain Speedway have been very popular,” Moses said. “We haven’t ruled out scheduling a NeSmith Touring race for 2012, but we need to find the right date that works everyone involved.”

The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour begins with the first three events of the season on February 2, 3, and 4 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

“East Tennessee has historically been a hotbed of dirt late model racing, but the down economy and high engine costs have hurt this division in recent years,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “The affordable nature of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series with the GM Performance Crate Engine has opened the door for dirt late models to make a comeback on a weekly basis. 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway working together just accelerates this growth.”

Drivers at 411 Motor Speedway and Smoky Mountain Speedway will compete against drivers at other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks throughout the country each weekend during a 27-week season from April 6, 2012 through October 7, 2012 through a points system. A competitor’s best 14 weekly point totals will count towards their National point total.

Drivers can compete in multiple races each week with their highest single event point total counting for that week. A driver can also earn up to 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points that will be added to their best 14 week point total. A driver can earn as much as 800 points that represents 14 50-point wins and 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points.

Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points can be earned in two different ways. A driver can earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in four straight events at a single track. A driver can also earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event during the Weekly Racing Series season.
