I WAS LOOKING AT THE LARRY SHAW RACECARS WEBSITE AND SAW THE MIDWEST MODIFIED REAR SUSPENSION SETUP. i dont have a shaw car but we have decided to try the spring with buckets on the swingarm. The problem we are having is when we let the car down the weight buckles the spring. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem any recommendations would be great. I have a feeling it could be because we are using a 16in. spring but not sure. by buckling i mean the spring gets bent sideways instead of standing straight up and down

what weight of spring are you using? Also yes, the 16 is probably too long. in their pictures that looks like around a 12, maybe 14"

don't know the chassis, so i can't say for sure, but that seems awfully light, especially at that length. did you contact shaw to see what they recommend? I don't think we ever ran under 350 on swingarm on our LM, and that was 12 or 14".

I don't have a shaw, but I ran 225 on the RR and 275 # on the LR last year on the swing arms.

What is the motion ratio of the swingarms?
In my experiance most people are way too light on the springs on the swing arm stuff.
I had a 50% ratio on a lightning and was running a 400 LR and a 375RR
which turned out to be a 200LR and a 187RR with the motion ratio factored in.
Also people who use a coilover on the swing arm go way too light on shock valving.
