CARTERSVILLE, GA – Three drivers have thrown their hats in the ring to compete for the $5,000 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award on the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour. VP Racing Fuels, the Official Racing Fuel of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, will award $5,000 to the top rookie driver in the 2012 series Touring point standings.

Pierce McCarter of Sevierville, TN, John Polasini of Leland, MS, and Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL have already signed up to compete for the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year, as the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series prepares for its first three races of the 2012 season on February 2, 3, and 4 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

Eligible drivers must declare their intentions to compete for the 2012 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award by the fifth event of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring season. The first three VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year candidates bring impressive and winning resumes to the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour for the 2012 season.

McCarter, who will celebrate his 20th birthday on February 4 at East Bay Raceway Park, began his career in the Classic Car Division at his home track, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN. McCarter moved up to dirt late models last season and recorded 12 wins, including a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series victory.

For his 2012 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year run with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Tour, McCarter will drive the CVR Race Cars special under the tutelage of veteran dirt late model car builder Chip Vineyard of Lenoir City, TN. McCarter’s father Mitch owns and promotes 411 Motor Speedway, which will be a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in 2012.

After racing open-wheel modifieds for four years, Polasini moved into the dirt late models late last season. The 41-year-old driver competed at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS and Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competition.

In his third night out in a dirt late model, Polasini took his first dirt late model victory at Drew County Speedway over the top two drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings, Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, and his cousin Duke Palasini of Leland, MS. Polasini will drive the Polasini Racing Special in 2012.

Joiner comes from a racing family and his brothers Jonathan and Joshua finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 2007 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series South Region point standings separated by one point. Jonathan races a limited schedule, as he is now pursuing a teaching career, and Joshua has gone from racing to writing as a dirt late model journalist.

Joseph, who began his driving career at the age of 12, now carries on the family race car driving duties. Now 18-years-old, Joiner has a pair of dirt late model championships at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL. Last season, Joiner recorded nine wins, including six straight victories, at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL. To compete for the 2012 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award Joiner will drive the Cifra Construction Special.
