So had I good conversation with a buddy about upper arms on a metric.

To use heims or bushings?

Here they are what would you do? And why?

when in doubt as yourself a simple question... have you ever seen a rubber bushing on a late model ?

You can also make this part! Why buy it?

if your allowed to use heims, what i did was changed the mounts on top of the rear end housing and just run 3/4 aluminum hex with heims on both ends

There are reason to run bushings.. Such as the absorb shock from acceleration as well as deceleration, this help to reduce tire spin.. Also if you make the rear end with all solid mounts the Pinion angle will never change! So I would rather have the worn out bushing so that my drive angle of my lower arms will change causing more forward bite..

dont you want the rear to wrap a little?

Don't forget Danny, while we have solid heims, we also use bearing birdcages that will allow the QC to rotate and the rotation is controlled by the lift arm and 5th shock...Just check out what the fast coil cars like the 3D and 72 run...

the benefits of having a rear end will all heims that rotates free far outweight any slight gain from having 2 rubber bushings absorb rear end wrap (assuming there really is any to speak of)

If you run all 4 stock bushing in the rear It can and will change as much as 3 degrees.. Take a jack and put it under the chunk or on the pinion of a old gear.. Jack up the car and have some on bounce on it.. You will see a little flex.. Now think of it like this.. You have close to 500 pds of torque on that same pinion with it carrying 3000 pd car... Now it you put all solid mounts in the rear there is now way for this to happen.. Also run stock bushing with the bolts snug not real tight the rear end will still move freely.. Everyone has there own way.. I'm not saying mine is right.. I do know that the pinion does change it was proved to me on a chassis dyno with cameras..

the upper links act as your torque arm and panhard bar, for whatever good the bushings could possibly give you in absorption under acceleration, they are hurting you just as bad on lateral axle movement...

if you have heims in the lowers the minimal lateral movement from the rubber uppers may be an advantage, the rear will move slightly to the left on corner exit tightening the car up a little. may be just my thinking though

i would hime all 4 bottom mounts and the chassis mounts on the top. use the stock rubbers on the rear like a rubber biscuit pull bar .. Danny not running the 3link car anymore ?

u cant relate a street stock to a late model. real cars were not meant for racing, late models were. you ever see a late model go pick up groceries?
