View Full Version : NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS To Honor 30 Drivers At Awards Banquet

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will honor 30 drivers for their 2011 accomplishments on Saturday night during the Annual Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Thunder Road Museum in Dawsonville, GA. Drivers being honored are the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour and the two Weekly Racing Series Regions.

Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC will be awarded the NeSmith Cup Trophy and pick up a $20,000 check out of the $50,000 point fund for winning the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour Championship. Breuer turned in two wins, 11 top five finishes, and 15 top ten finishes in 17 starts driving the AES Racing Special.

Two-time series champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN is the runner-up with Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC, Frank Wilson of Harold, FL, Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS, and Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS finishing third through tenth respectively.

Edge will pick up a $5,000 bonus from VP Racing Fuels for taking the 2011 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award. Breuer will receive a $1,000 bonus from Hedman Husler Hedders for winning the Hedman Husler Hard Charger of the Year Award.

Turner will be recognized in his hometown with the Ironman Award to commemorate his 124 consecutive races with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. Turner is the only driver to have competed in every series event held since its inception in 2005.

Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS will be honored for his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL will be honored for winning the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Championship. Each Regional Champion will receive a check for $5,000.

Second through tenth respectively in the West Region that will be recognized at the banquet are Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL, Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS, Landon Frith of Terry, MS, Randy Boyd of Marion, MS, Chandler Petty of Austin, AR, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS, and Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS.

Second through tenth in the OMG East Region respectively are Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, Mike Combs of Odenville, AL, Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA, Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL, Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL, Trey White of Jenkinsburg, GA, Ryan King of Anniston, AL, and Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL.

Each driver honored in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will receive a trophy, a point fund check, and a Sponsor Contingency Package worth $600.

GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR will receive the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Championship Award for both the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour and the Weekly Racing Series. It will be GRT’s first Touring Series title and the fourth Weekly Racing Series Championship.

Three other Special Awards that will be announced the night of the banquet are the Bob Cross Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award, the NeSmith Chevrolet Performance Parts Crew Chief of the Year Award, and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Promoter of the Year Award.

Other presentations include the 2011 Highlight Video and the State of the Series Address by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn.

“I’m real excited to have banquet moved to Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville,” Vaughn said. “There’s a lot of history in the hall and anyone involved in racing will enjoy what’s on display. The drivers that will receive awards at the banquet are making history and that atmosphere rings loud and clear at the hall. I hope this will be the annual home of the banquet and the Cartersville-based NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series can be a part of this facility for one night each year.”

According to Georgia Racing Hall of Fame officials, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Awards Banquet on Saturday night will be the first National racing series awards banquet that has been held at the facility.

“We’re really looking forward to having the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Thunder Road USA Museum,” Hall of Fame and Museum President Gordon Pirkle said. “This will be the first National racing series banquet we’ve had at the hall, we’re proud that they’re based in Georgia, and we hope they enjoy what they will see walking through the museum.”
