which would be best in a b-mod, 4-link, g-60's, 2600 lbs with a 500 cfm 2-barrel?? any and all suggestions are greatly apreciated. 3/8 high bank clay oval.

I would think the 383 because of the stroke of the 400(3.75) More TQ, less RPM motor. But I remember Nascar teams going to smaller CI when the restrictor plates were new?

Im having the 377 built cause thats what i had parts for. It will have 49cc, 200 runner dart heads, super vic intake solid flat tapet custom ground cam, but my next motor will either be a 383 or a 396 which is a 350 block with a 3.875 stroke crank... were gonna start on it as soon as the 377 is done so before the end of the year, ill get to try it out... just wondering what other people thought... thanks for your imput....

Either one will work. Just have a good head and cam combo for your 2 barrel....

the heads were recommended by CNC_Motorsports out of brooking south dakota and the cam is a custom cam that my motor guy said would be perfect.. all i know about it right now is that it has lots of lift, in the .580 range, but rather small on duration with a 107 or 108 lobe center. he said its very easy to over cam a 2-barrel motor.. im looking forward to getting it done and fired up.. thanks again for your imput..

.580" lift might be a little to much for any 2 barrel motor.

We had a 360" legal 4412 engine with Dart 215's on it. 14:1 deal with a solid Crower 00308 cam, suggested by Bill H as we thought about putting a 4bbl on it occasionally. Never did, but with 1.7 Crower SS rockers on intake and 1.6's on the exhaust it had .600 lift on intake and .586 on the exhaust. We usually did not turn it over 7800, but it pulled real hard up to whatever we wanted to stop turning it and we had had a bunch of other 4412 engine before with all sorts of head and cam combo's...smaller Darts, World Sportsman II, Comp Cam BTL tight lash series, Comp with their XTQ lobes, etc...

probably will never tell the diff.
but the 377 should rev faster

Either one will be just fine. Make sure you have plenty of compression in it to make use of the small carb.

377 is a rpm motor and needs more air than a 2 barrel can provide to work well.

Ive built two and both were worthless compared to a 383 or 406.

your car also has to weigh 3000 pds though correct?

This is in a mod that will handle better and carry more corner speed. With it being high banked track i would go w/ the 377 sounds like that would be a better option for momentum type of track.

its going to be in the 12.5 to 13 range on the compression and has great stuff in it so we figured we would keep throwing gear at it to keep it turning in the powerband as much as we can. once we get to run it, ill post back and let yall know what i think about it..

You'll go faster with a 2 link...

I've run a 377 combo similar to your description for years. It's the best bang for the buck, because you don't have to clearance the thing, and the bore/stroke ratio is better than a 383. HOWEVER...if the track you run gets supper slick by feature time, be prepared to dial it down at the throttle. The 383s I've run have always been more manageable...and on a 3/8s track you'll find it's a little stronger than the 377. Also, watch plugs on those old 400 blocks with the high compression numbers. If you get too lean, those old 400 blocks will break your heart.

Good luck.

We're hooking up massive power with the 4 link. Why would you want to hook your car up harder with less motor? Give it a shot, I think you would like it. You can carry more corner speed.

And my take, a 383 should be enough. The 377 will run fine but just be prepared to gear it up. I ran one in 06 at a fall race and had to gear differently.
