Is it possible to run a Holley 4150 series 600 cfm carb on a 604?? Will it hurt the motor? Pros/Cons let me hear it!!! Keep in mind 1/4 mile super slick track

wont hurt it a bit if its jetted correctly. On my bosses open late we had to run a 390 carb at a couple of shows and it ran fine on a 421 open. You may just find that it runs better on that 1/4 mile on that engine because of better carb signal with the smaller venturi. You may pick up a little bottom end and that is a good thing

It won't hurt the motor if it's jetted right but you'll be down on power all the way through on a 604. Pawn it off and get the right thing IMO.

Hooter's Cup cars ran them forever and those engines made 600+ HP. They were a 600HP, just like the 650HP ( 80540-1 ) but a little smaller venturi and throttle bore than the 650-750 carbs.

Like 50J said if it is set up right it will be fine, 5 Psi fuel pressure on a good CV / Carter pump, -8 line minimum, not too many 90* bends, PVO .035"-.040" / PV 6.5 Front and back, 72-78 jets
( jetting is critical on a 604 can make +/- 20ft#/20HP I start big and read the plugs if I can't use the dyno ). I like both accelerator pumps at 30cc, squirters @ .028"F .035"R with a red half moons and no slack in the arms. The good diaphragms run about $25 a pair and they will usually last 10 races with oxy gas or a season with normal fuel like C10. Pump gas is oxy gas with ethanol in it as it has more oxygenate than most race fuels.

I also use a my own secondary link to make the back barrels open when needed. If done properly it can be +50RWHP ( I tune my midrange on the chassis dyno ). Most folks don't have a clue about the HP that is hidden in the transition on primary and secondary opening.

Most folks think early opening is the key but the real power is made by maximizing vacuum during that time.

If you want to know how much power it makes on a good 604, I run them for free on the chassis dyno. You pay shipping back and forth. If you want parts or extra work we can do that also.
