Richmond Raceway Adds New Clay for Upcoming Season; Improvements Continue as Opening Day Draws Near!

RICHMOND, KY (February 9, 2012)-Richmond Raceway track promoters Joey and Tiffany Tackett are thrilled to announce the addition of new clay to the racing surface.

With upwards of 100 loads of new clay being hauled in the racing surface has been re-configured to allow for consistent banking in the straightaways and throughout the turns. “We feel the new clay and newly re-designed racing surface will provide more door-to-door racing, as if it could get any better than in 2011,” said track promoter Joey Tackett.

Richmond Raceway teamed with Robert Thomas of Thomas Construction for the resurfacing project. Robert assessed the many needs of the existing surface, minimal dirt, and lack of equipment to work with. He along with his employees have spent countless hours hauling, dozing, and re-emerging what the Tackett’s have envisioned for the past two race seasons.

Other enhancements to the facility continue to be made prior to opening day including the lighting issues on the grandstand side and the all new Hager’s Pit Stop. Photos of all the off-season improvements including the new racing surface can be found at www.richmond-raceway.net

The 2012 season will officially kick off on Saturday, April 28 with a Test and Tune for all classes. Saturday, May 5 is Mayhem Motorsports Night paying $800 to win for Open Wheel Modifieds. The Coyote 100.7 FM Late Models are welcome for practice that night. The first full program of racing is set for Mother’s and Others Night on Saturday, May 12 with weekly racing in all divisions.
